What happened on The Young and the Restless

Adam read an unpublished story on Cane to Nick and Chelsea about Cane being a fraud. Nick called it flowery and dark for a business article. Chelsea said it was a solid, fact-checked piece. She wanted to talk about Cane’s reaction.
Nick said that Victor was making sure that his companies and divisions were on alert for cyber attacks from Cane. Chelsea said the story had to go out. She pointed out that three people (Damian, Chance, and Carter) died on Cane’s estate, and he walked away without being charged. Chelsea suggested that Cane’s attacks could tear the family apart. Nick thought it might be a smoke screen. He added that Victor thought Jill could take care of Cane.
Chelsea said childhood wounds can be complicated. Adam said if he could make amends with Victor, given their past, then Billy could with Jill. Nick said that all bets were off once the article was published. Chelsea said the article is not a slow burn, and his kids will see this article. If Billy loses Lily, Charlie, and Mattie, then Cane will retaliate. Nick said we can’t jam a bullet back in a gun after it’s been fired. “Yikes! Not the best metaphor,” Chelsea responded. She said her influencers are ready to post and re-aggregate the story. Adam got a text from Victor to “publish” the story on Cane.
“Fly my pretties!” Adam said as he posted. “The sound of truth traveling the world,” Adam added as he heard text responses to the story. Chelsea checked her phone and said that sites were picking up the article.
Adam and Chelsea fielded responses to their story, including an inquiry to reveal their sources. Adam said they were covered in the article. Nick said he was off to Los Angeles. Adam noted that Victor wanted everyone there. Nick looked at his phone and acknowledged he needed to be in Genoa City, but he wasn’t sure that there was a threat. Nick said there was no quicker way to piss him off than to be told not to be there for his family.
Chelsea asked if something was wrong in Los Angeles. She told Nick that she and Adam have a handle on things. Nick said he couldn’t wait there indefinitely. Adam said to wait a while because if Cane lashed out, they didn't know who he’d attack.
Jill asked Jack to leave her and Cane alone. Jack asked Cane to think about what they talked about. Cane said he’d given him a lot to think about. Jack told Jill it was always a delight to see her. Jill said to Cane that she couldn’t wait to hear Jack’s opinion. Cane shared that Jack thought Jill could influence him. Jill added that it’s up to Cane if the chat they’re going to have is bad or not. It’ll depend on what Cane says.
Jill told Cane not to be so cute in his assessment of Victor. Jill asked Cane if Colin targeted Madame de Leon so he could get her money. Cane deflected, but Jill kept pushing. He said Jill was the only woman Colin loved. “Is it true, Cane?” Jill demanded to know. Cane said that Victor threatened him to go after Jabot, but that he wouldn’t be intimidated by anyone.
Jill asked if Cane’s line about not being manipulated was directed at her. He insisted that it was not. Jill told Cane he was cut off from the world. Cane recounted the deaths in France and Jill’s loss. Jill maintained that Cane was not responsible for Chance's death. Jill wondered if Cane wanted to be back in France. Cane said it was easier doing that than trying to make amends as Cane in Genoa City. Jill wondered if he was even trying.
Cane said he didn’t know if Colin coerced Madame de Leon. Jill asked if Colin had told his son after the fact. Jill asked if Colin and Cane were lying to her when he was dying. Jill said he was still Colin with that ridiculous smile, but he had no deceit. Jill said that Colin courted Madame de Leon and stole her fortune. Cane admitted that that sounded like Colin. Jill asked if Cane knew that Colin's money had been stolen. Cane said he didn’t and swore on the lives of his children. Just then, Lily appeared and ordered Cane not to use their children’s names that way.
Jill greeted Lily and tried to keep the peace between her and Cane. Lily shared the Newman Media story. Cane said that he was aware that Victor had the story. Lily said that after what happened with Cane in France that Victor hated him. Lily suggested that Cane would text them or tell Lily to call her to tell their kids that this story could be coming after Cane said Charlie and Mattie wouldn’t take his call. Lily feared that the twins would see Cane as their father after they read this story.
Lily shared that Mattie and Charlie just want to move on with their lives. She said that Mattie and Charlie don’t need her blessing to leave Cane in the dust, but, after this, they would have it. Lily left. Cane said there was no way to fix this.
Jill urged Cane to turn it around. Cane said there was nothing left of him after the deception. “Make Lily and the twins understand,” Jill said. She told her surrogate son to use his actions. “This is your time. This is your redemption. Prove it and prove it in a way that cannot be denied,” Jill said.
At his office at Jabot, Jack flash-backed to his talk with Cane. He was interrupted by Diane’s arrival. They chatted a bit about Jabot business, but then Diane wanted to know about Jack’s meeting with Cane. Jack said he didn’t get Cane to hand over the AI software, but he planted a seed that Jill might be able to do some good. Diane was skeptical.
Jack said he had hope after talking to Cane. He observed that Cane was at a crossroads. Jack said he saw regret. He knew he had done everything wrong. “Too little, too late. The man held us captive in France. We’d still be lost in those hedges somewhere if he’d had his way. Have you forgotten about that?” Diane said.
Jack said he saw a chink in the armor. He added that Cane wanted to be back in Jill’s good graces. Jack said if Jill came through, they wouldn’t have to work with Victor. “Then go, Jill, go!” Diane enthused.
Diane wondered if Cane felt hurt, then he could go for broke. Diane asked about a future where Cane’s program would still exist. Diane wondered if Jill would give the program to Victor or back to Cane? Jack said he’d try to convince Jill to destroy it.
Diane theorized that Jill would want to help Cane save Cane from himself. Jack said once he knew Jill had the program, she could make her move. Diane said that Jack would then destroy the program. “Sure. Yeah. Or use it on Victor and Newman Enterprises,” Jack mused.
Jack recapped Victor’s misdeeds over the last year. He pointed out that his big crime was helping Nikki with her sobriety when Victor could not. Diane told Jack to stop. “This is how we get the revenge on Victor that he deserves. I am all in,” Diane said. Jack grabbed his wife and kissed her in celebration.
At Crimson Lights, Phyllis asked Daniel about his trip to Boston with Tessa. Phyllis called her son a cowboy, who wore a white heart. Phyllis wondered if Daniel should sit this one out, as Tessa and Mariah are a married couple. Phyllis noted Tessa was tough and resilient. Daniel asked his mother if she was trying to get him to stay away from Tessa. Phyllis said Daniel was defensive. Daniel called his mom pushy. Phyllis asked if Daniel had feelings for this girl.
Phyllis told Daniel that she talked to Danny, and he confirmed that Daniel has feelings for Tessa. Daniel was not happy that her dad gave him up. Phyllis admitted she was bluffing, but that it worked because Daniel confirmed her suspicions.
Daniel told Phyllis not to worry. His mother pointed out to Daniel that her son’s heart had shattered after Heather died. Phyllis noted that Tessa is kind and they share a passion for guitar. She was afraid that Daniel would get hurt down the road. Daniel said Tessa loved her wife. Phyllis said Daniel was going to be a chump for going along on the ride with Tessa.
Daniel told Phyllis that she was trying to “save him.” Phyllis said she couldn’t pretend not to care. “You could pretend like I’m a grown ass man who doesn’t need Mommy to meddle,” Daniel said. Phyllis pointed out that “unrequited love is a very special kind of hell. It really is, Daniel. Especially if you’re in love with someone who’s in love with someone else.”
Daniel suggested that they not go down that hole. Phyllis said it wasn’t just his dad, but there were also others. Daniel noted Phyllis went there not once, but twice with Danny. Phyllis asked if Daniel had this. Phyllis said that Tessa can lean on Sharon. They can work this out together.
“This isn’t about romance,” Daniel said. It was about living his life. Phyllis said that hope is a dangerous thing. Phyllis talked about the jolt that one gets when you see the person you care about. “You look at them and they smile at you. You want to matter to Tessa,” Phyllis said. “I know you do.” But she’s in love wth someone else. “Well, I hear ya. I love ya. And I can take care of myself,” Daniel maintained.
Phyllis changed the subject to Lucy. Then, Lily walked in, upset by the Cane story. Daniel noticed that Lily seemed angry. “Pure rage works for some people,” Phyllis said after Lily acknowledged she was raging. Phyllis checked her phone for the Cane story. Lily thanked Phyllis for being part of the reason Cane won’t go away.
As she looked at the article, Phyllis shrugged that Cane doesn’t bow to Victor, and that’s why the story was published. She said it would blow over. Lily marveled that Phyllis kept defending Cane. Phyllis maintained that nothing that happened there was Cane’s fault. We were there because of him, Lily pointed out.
Phyllis said Cane felt horrible over what happened to Damian and Chance. Lily said that Cane probably promised the world to Phyllis, but it won’t happen because Cane’s a liar. After Phyllis took a call, Lily told Daniel that his mom was a lost cause. Cane called Phyllis and asked to see her right away.
