Danny surprised Christine at the jazz lounge. They had separate plans with Michael and Lauren. However, after they decided to combine the plans into a couple's night out, Michael interrupted and proclaimed, "I'm not sure fun is the right word for that combination." Lauren quickly followed and told everyone she didn't want to be seated next to Michael then or at their wedding. It seemed as if tension still lingered from Michael secretly working with Victor again.

Jack told Diane he had no idea Victor would launch a full media campaign against Cane. They both found it reckless, and Jack believed it might lead to further retaliation from Cane. Before he went any further with Diane, Jill entered Jack's office, and he turned his attention toward her and joked that he was finally on her list of visits.

Jill informed Jack that her visit to Genoa City wouldn't last long, and he needed to make the most of her time.

At Newman Media, Adam and Chelsea basked in the success of the exposé. Site traffic was at an all-time high, which signaled the move was smart for business. Adam told Chelsea it was the most fun he had had in a while, but the mood changed quickly when Cane knocked on their door. In typical Adam fashion, he asked Cane (smugly), "Did you enjoy our article?"

Danny and Christine struggled to understand the sudden tension between Michael and Lauren. Christine demanded to know what was going on, and Lauren sold Michael out and told them she had coaxed the truth about his deal with Cane out of her husband. She felt like Michael lied to her every day, but despite her pleas, he lied to her over and over. Not only was it not a simple job with Cane, but it was another shady and secret deal with Victor.

Lauren stated her case, "Every time you tell me that you are over, that you are done with Victor forever, all he does is just snap his little fingers, and you go running to be by his side." Michael defended his actions and declared he wanted to protect everyone in Genoa City. He believed Lauren's anger was unfair because he shouldn't be knocked for how he tried to divert a disaster.

Jack couldn't comprehend Jill leaving town already since Billy and Cane were in crisis. Jill cited a medical procedure as the reason for her quick visit. However, Jack expressed concern about getting Jill involved if she faced medical issues. Jill let Jack know that his intention had failed. "If your plan was a mother and son reunion, it was a big fat failure," she said. Naturally, Billy was upset that Jill went straight to Cane, which shouldn't have come as a surprise to her.

Adam gloated over their success in Cane's face. He asked if Cane wanted to provide a comment for the record, but Cane stone-faced him. Cane thought the piece was interesting, but he denied the validity of any claims. He observed that Adam enjoyed sticking it to him, but he assured them that a lawsuit was in their future. He stood by the idea that none of it was true, and a defamation case was coming.

Jack and Jill wished Billy wouldn't see things with Cane as a competition, but Jack showed her that the way she went about things showed otherwise. He couldn't fathom how she could have anticipated any other option. The public shame and humiliation widened the rift further. Neither were on good terms with Billy, and although that was the norm, this has escalated. Jack felt as if the only option left to save Billy was to cut him off completely. Even if it's the best option for him, Jill pointed out how neither could follow through with cutting Billy off permanently.

Chelsea questioned how Cane could be unaware of Colin's final con. As a former conwoman herself, something Cane pointed out, how couldn't Chelsea see his point of view? Adam geared up for a larger fight with Cane, but Chelsea motioned for him to back down. Cane asked if Adam had any substantial proof of their published claims or if he just carried out his father’s orders.

Michael and Lauren's argument escalated further, which forced Danny and Christine to intervene. They asked them to sit, and they separated the embattled couple, and they hoped to fix things. Christine took custody of Muchael, and Danny tackled the task of Lauren. Since he wasn’t employed by Cane or Victor, he didn't understand the problem Lauren was having. Christine recalled how none of her past dealings with Victor landed her in a South American prison like it did with Michael.

Christine knew Michael was desperate to return to Victor to repair what was broken. However, although he admitted that to be true, he reminded her that his loyalty to the town was also present. He saw an opportunity to save everyone from a threat and took action.

Lauren told Danny she felt like she was always left to wonder and worry about Muichael. She believed Michael would eventually succumb to some danger put forth to him by Victor. She explained to Danny that working for Victor nearly broke them, and when things were finally looking up, he ran back to his former boss. She didn't believe Michael put their family on top at all. Danny came to Michael's defense because he thought he was doing the right thing.

Lauren attempted to spin Danny's defense as a tactic to avoid wedding drama, but those claims were quickly squashed. Danny worked his best to get Lauren to remember the reasons she loved Michael.

Jack and Jill debated how to handle Billy, but Jack urged her to remember how big his heart was. Jill didn't want to discuss Billy much more and brought the conversation back to Cane, the other reason Jack summoned her back to Genoa City. However, Jack questioned if that train was a lost cancel to prevent it from derailing after the Newman Media campaign.

The showdown continued at Newman Media, and Adam practically begged Cane to sue. He felt like they were legally protected from this because of the letter. None of it mattered, though, because Adam felt as if Cane would be too busy fending off people with claims to the fortune. Before leaving their office, Cane hinted at an exclusive story for Newman Media, Chelsea specifically, but it didn't sound good for the company.

Jack discussed the smear campaign against Cane, and Jill had a front row seat for this. This was what Jack felt would be the last straw for Cane to seek revenge. He assured Jill he had nothing to do with any of this, but he, too, was blindsided by Victor's latest tool of escalation. Jill tried to ease some of Jack's fears and told him she believed Cane's focus was on making things right with Lily and the twins.

Adam inquired about the story Cane teased, and he asked him to give up the AI program if he really wanted to smooth things over. Cane left the office, but not before he reminded Chelsea, again, that he'd be in touch soon. They are somewhat afraid of the story Cane has.

Lauren remained steadfast in her treatment of Michael. She wanted to wallow in her anger a bit more and stay angry at Michael. At the other side of the lounge, Christine tried to get Michael to understand that he was only upset he got caught. She reminded him of how much he loved his wife, which prompted him to explain the reason. The divide and conquer method appeared to be somewhat successful. Things shifted from a lost cause to mutual declarations of love.

Back at Cane's train, Phyllis appeared and expressed her readiness to enact damage control. However, Cane was nowhere to be found. In typical Phyllis fashion, she started to snoop around his room, but it wasn't long until he caught her in the act.

Michael requested that Danny give him and Lauren a moment alone to talk. Christine and Danny felt as if their plan worked, which seemed to be the case when Michael apologized to Lauren. He admitted he fell back into an old bad habit, and he was surprised when she also issued an apology. She gave him points for being proud of him, and he said he didn't want her to ever stop protecting him. They agreed to find common ground and to see things from the other's perspective moving forward, even regarding Victor.

Jack wanted the truth from Jill about how she felt about the latest allegations against Colin. While Cane denied knowing anything about the scheme, Jill believed Colin could have done it. She didn't think Cane was involved and explained the reason to Jack. "Cane is terrified that this smear on Colin's name might be true, that this man he believed was redeemed was, in fact, lying to him the whole time. That would mean that everything he created was built on lies, and that has been a huge kick in the gut."

Cane believed Phyllis was snooping through the train, but she asserted she was looking for a deck of cards. Phyllis demanded to know if any or all the dirt on Cane was true and if Victor had published facts.

Victor dropped by Newman and congratulated Adam and Chelsea on the success of the article. However, he wasn't concerned about any legal ramifications of it. They informed him of Cane's veiled threat about another story looming.

Jack reminded Jill that everything that happened to Cane was a result of his own doing. Jill knew it was easy for Jack to be cynical about this, but she assured him that Cane genuinely believed Colin to be a changed man. He was proud of what they built together, and if it was all a lie, everything Cane had would burn.

Phyllis tried to get the truth out of Cane, but he didn't want to talk about the article. He only wanted to look toward the future. She asked how she fit into the equation, which hinted at a lot of drama for Genoa City's companies.
