Daniel Goddard, formerly Cane Ashby on Young and the Restless, has been using social media to tease news that he believes will make his fans very happy.
"Hey, so I'm getting a lot of questions and [direct messages] about what was the big news," Goddard announced on Instagram. "And when are we going to hear what the big news was? All I can say is this. Just for now. I got a haircut. And it's for a reason. So just soon. Very soon. I can't wait to tell you."
Goddard's followers are speculating that Goddard is reprising Cane, who is, in reality, the elusive Aristotle Dumas — the exec who's been referred to often on Y&R. If that's true, watch for Cane and Lily (Christel Khalil) to reunite.
Goddard made his daytime debut as Cane Ashby on Y&R in 2007. The character shared a complicated history during his 12 years on the show. Cane was revealed to be the true Phillip Chancellor III after Kay (the late, great Jeanne Cooper) remembered that she stole Jill's (Jess Walton) baby shortly after he was born.
While that made sense, given Kay's hatred of Jill, viewers later learn that was a false memory. Cane was not Phillip. There was also a conflicting backstory as to whether or not Cane's mother was alive. Genie Francis (Genevieve Atkinson) popped up alive and well, putting an end to that debate.
During Goddard's tenure as Cane, he and co-star Khalil shot to the top of the popularity polls. When Cane was killed off, the character's final words were "I love you, Lily." After viewer protest, Cane was revived. It turned out that it was his twin brother Caleb who had perished.
Cane left town in 2019 in order to track down his father, Colin Atkinson (Tristan Rogers, best known to fans as Robert Scorpio on GH), after the con artist made off with Devon's money. Those funds were returned, but Cane has not come back to town.
Goddard is known to non-daytime TV viewers for his turn as Dar on Beastmaster, a TV series based on the movie franchise that starred Marc Singer as the heroic beastmaster. Ironically, Singer did a turn on Y&R back in 1999 as Chet, one of Victor Nemwan's (Eric Braeden) many enemies.
Goddard's other credits include What Remains, Monk, and Wild Card. He began his TV and soap career on the popular Australian serial Home and Way, on which he played Eric Phillips.
