The Young and the Restless comings and goings: Linden Ashby back as Cameron

Sharon's problems become more pronounced as she sees a dead man on The Young and the Restless.

Linden Ashby made his return to The Young and the Restless on the August 1 episode, as Sharon heard the voice of Cameron Kirsten and then saw him standing in her living room.

Since Sharon stabbed Cameron last year after he kidnapped Faith and strapped a bomb to her chest, Cameron looked just as he did when he met his maker. He stood before Sharon, bloody and disheveled, as her mental health troubles continued.

Sharon has recently been having visions of her dead daughter, Cassie, while exhibiting erratic behavior. She thought she was just adjusting to new bipolar medication, but she eventually stopped taking her meds altogether. Could that be what's causing her visions, or is something more going on?

With Ashby listed in Y&R's closing credits, it looks like he might stick around for a bit to haunt Sharon. He seemed to have a coded message for her, saying, "You can try and run from what's happening, Sharon, but you can't hide."

Ashby, who is married to Y&R's Susan Walters (Diane Jenkins Abbott), originated the role of Cameron back in 2003. The character became obsessed with Sharon and stalked her until he was finally jailed. Cameron was released from prison last year and immediately returned to stalking Sharon before she killed him. She later learned he left his company to her in his will, which she rebranded as Cassidy First Technology after the late Cassie.

When Ashby returned to Y&R after 20 years, he insisted that Cameron stay a bad guy and got his wish.

"[Y&R executive producer and head writer] Josh [Griffith] and I talked about it. And I knew I had sort of a limited window on this," he told Soap Central of his return. "I had a bunch of other stuff going, and I said, 'Okay, I don't want any redemption. I wanna come in and burn a wide swath and go out in a blaze of glory.' I kidnapped a guy, killed a cat, kidnapped a girl, and tried to blow everybody up."

Cameron didn't succeed in his plans to blow everyone up, but Sharon did succeed in killing him. Will Cameron's ghost now succeed in driving Sharon out of her mind?
