Long-time The Young and the Restless star Kate Linder has added another honor to her storied career: she's been named an Honorary Colonel.
On Saturday, August 6th, American Legion Hollywood Post 43 named The Young and the Restless star Kate Linder (Esther Valentine) its Honorary Colonel of Hollywood.
"I will never forget being able to share this honor with stars such as Rita Hayworth, Lana Turner, Marilyn Monroe, Ginger Rogers, and countless others," Linder said of the honor.
The mission of Hollywood Post 43 is to support men and women who swore with their lives to defend and protect the United States with continued service to our community, state, and nation. They serve as advocates to help veterans achieve meaningful careers, educations, health-care services, friends, and stable homes and to ensure they are supported every day, free of charge.

"I would like to thank Commander Jeff Daly, Past Commander Jennifer Campbell, and Honorary Colonel Jane Austin, who I know had a lot to do with me being named Honorary Colonel. I would like to thank the members and veterans of Hollywood Post 43. Thank you for your service has a whole new meaning for me now and forever!"
Linder has been a long-time supporter of the men and woman in the armed forces. She has done 4 USO tours with the late Johnny Grant and spent Thanksgivings visiting troops in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Korea, boosting morale, later visiting Guantanamo Bay to send off deploying troops from Fort Hood.
More than 200 actors and actresses have been inducted as Honorary Colonels of Hollywood Post 43 over the years, mostly in the years before 1952. Some of the previous honorees include Jayne Mansfield, Dawn Wells, Shirley Temple, and, as Linder mentioned, Rita Hayworth, Lana Turner, Marilyn Monroe, and Ginger Rogers.
Linder marked her 40th anniversary as Y&R's Esther earlier this year.
