Y&R grants Peter Bergman a new five-year contract

The Young and the Restless and veteran actor Peter Bergman have reached a new deal that will see Jack Abbott remaining on the canvas for at least another half decade.

Fans can't imagine The Young and the Restless without long-running cast member Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott), and it seems neither can the CBS soap opera: . the The powers that be have agreed to grant the actor a new five five-year contract.

Deadline was the first to report the exciting news of Bergman's new deal, which is a rarity in the genre that typically gives contracts that range in length from one to four years. Another thing that makes the contract so significant: Y&R has only been renewed through 2024, so, the actor's lengthy contract is a strong indication that the number-one-rated soap opera has a long future ahead of it.

Bergman originally got his start in the daytime world on All My Children, where he played the role of Dr. Cliff Warner from 1979 to 1989. He joined Y&R in 1989, and throughout his long career, he has earned a whopping 23 Daytime Emmy nominations in the Outstanding Lead Actor category.

In a recent interview with CBS Watch, the actor shared that his number one goal at work is to deliver a great performance.

"I come in and I pick [scripts] up as soon as I get in the room. I can't wait to find out what happened to Jack," he shares. "I don't ask the writers to tell me what's going to happen. In fact, I asked them not to tell me what's going to happen so that when I open these things, I find out. I love doing this. My job is to make [the material] as good as I can make it."
