Y&R honored for hugely successful toy drive

The cast and crew of The Young and the Restless played Santa Claus over the holidays and were recently honored with a special award by the NAACP for their charitable efforts.

Just before Christmas 2020, the cast, crew, and production staff of The Young and the Restless went on a holiday shopping spree and bought out the entire toy section at Big Lots to bring underprivileged kids some Christmas joy. And now, the NAACP is rewarding the show's efforts with special recognition.

Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers), who organized the toy drive for the NAACP's Inglewood chapter and raised approximately $5,000 for toys for families in need, took to Twitter with the exciting news.

"This is a HUGE honor for me and everyone at #YR," she posted along with a CBSN Los Angeles video that shows Inglewood Chapter President Rev. Fred Shaw presenting her with a community service plaque that commemorates the work done by the entire cast and crew of Y&R.

"All these folks gave their time, and it was a beautiful effort; this is how it should be," Stafford can be heard saying as she's presented with the award. "This is the beginning of a beautiful relationship between The Young and the Restless and the NAACP."

As Soap Central previously reported, Stafford shared the results of her toy drive on Instagram last December with a photo of her and Y&R costar Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin), explaining they had "totally bought out the toy section of @biglots."

"We were only able to do this with the help of others," she wrote at the time. "These incredible people who donated their time today and the amazing folks at The Young and the Restless who donate so much monetarily... ... Maybe it will be a happier Christmas for some kids... The year has hit some folks so hard!! Perhaps we can inspired [sic] others, you never know.. I am so excited we were able to get this done!!"

Y&R star Sean Dominic (Nate Hastings) also commented on the CBSN Los Angeles video that Stafford posted with a message of gratitude about being involved.

"Thanks for leading the way @TheRealStafford!" he shared. "Let's lift these kids up and give them a future to look forward to!"
