The Young and the Restless' Kelli Goss cast in The United States of Al

The new CBS sitcom The United States of Al has cast Kelli Goss (ex-Courtney Sloane) in a series regular role opposite Adhir Kalyan, Parker Young, and Dean Norris.

Kelli Goss stirred up a lot of trouble as The Young and the Restless' Courtney Sloane before going on to make a name for herself in the Netflix comedy series The Ranch. Now she's mixing the two -- drama and comedy -- for her new role in the CBS sitcom The United States of Al.

Deadline reports that Goss has signed on as a series regular in the comedy series that follows the friendship between Riley (Parker Young), a Marine combat veteran struggling to readjust to civilian life in Ohio, and Awalmir aka Al (Adhir Kalyan), the interpreter who served with his unit in Afghanistan and has just arrived to start a new life in America.

Goss is set to play Vanessa, Riley's soon-to-be ex-wife and the fiercely protective mother of their young daughter. The official character description teases that Vanessa tries her best to co-parent with her undependable ex, despite her frustration with his hard-partying, adrenaline-junkie lifestyle.

Elizabeth Alderfer has also signed on as the series regular character Lizzie, Riley's arty younger sister who lives at home and works for her father, Art (Dean Norris). She's adrift since the loss of her fianc, killed in the line of duty. Lizzie copes by throwing herself into booze and Burning Man, which makes her an ally for her brother, an enabler for his more self-destructive tendencies, and like no woman Al ever met in Afghanistan.

Goss took to Twitter with the news that she had been cast in The United States of Al, writing, "Is this real life?!? So excited to be joining this project!!"

The United States of Al is a multi-camera sitcom from The Big Bang Theory co-creator/executive producer Chuck Lorre, Big Bang executive producers David Goetsch and Maria Ferrari, TV personality and scholar of religious studies Reza Aslan, and Warner Bros. TV.

Goss starred in shows like My Name Is Earl, The United States of Tara, Hannah Montana, and Hollywood Heights before landing the role of Y&R's Courtney in 2013. Her Genoa City character was killed off in 2015, after which the actress went on to star in the Netflix sitcom The Ranch opposite Ashton Kutcher and Sam Elliott.
