Y&R's Michael Muhney wins award for Best Comedic Actor

Congratulations are in order for Michael Muhney (ex-Adam Newman, The Young and the Restless), who took home the award for Best Comedic Actor at this year's X World Short Film Festival for his work in the comedy film Sidepiece.

There's nothing altogether funny about The Young and the Restless' Adam Newman, who manages to bring his fair share of drama and then some to Genoa City. But the same can't be said for his former portrayer Michael Muhney, who just won an award that proves his comedic acting chops are just as strong as the serious acting talents he flexed while starring on the CBS soap opera.

The X World short Film Festival has named the Y&R alum as winner of the Best Comedic Actor category for his work in the Teddy Tenenbaum and Minsun Park project Sidepiece. The short film, described as a "kinda-romantic-comedy," stars Muhney and Jenness Rouse as Collin and Lucy, a couple who meet for a date -- and are both cheating on their spouses! The plot thickens when Lucy's sister-in-law (Park) seems weirdly excited that Lucy's finally cheating on her brother... and those are just some of the crazy shenanigans featured in the film, which also includes a peek at one of Muhney's hidden talents.

"If you wanna see what I can do with a pair of drumsticks, you gotta stay tuned for this [film]," Muhney teased back in November.

Having risen to fame as Sheriff Don Lamb on the CW's Veronica Mars, Muhney joined the cast of Y&R as Victor Newman's troublemaking son Adam in 2009. He was let go from the soap in 2014 and has since appeared in Sidepiece, the holiday film Correcting Christmas, and in the TV series The Good Doctor.

In answer to fans who miss him and wonder what his future career plans are, Muhney says he's hard at work auditioning and waiting for his next opportunity. "Several times recently come soooo painfully close to closing a deal. Just a matter of time," he tweeted. "Hollywood is the most competitive work environment in the world."

Unfortunately, the chances of Muhney returning to Y&R are slim, considering the soap opera recently cast Mark Grossman in the role of Adam. However, Muhney isn't ruling out a return to soap operas and shares that if he were to rejoin the daytime world, the show he would most like to work on would be ABC's General Hospital.

"There're folks over there I'd love to work with again and I love the studio and location it films and I kinda dig all the good things I've heard about their cast & crew & set," he tweeted, along with a caveat soap fans won't want to hear: "But that is IF I would go back to daytime."

Time will tell whether or not Muhney will one day step back into the world of soap operas. In the meantime, check him out in the teaser trailer for Sidepiece below and let us know your thoughts on his award for Best Comedic Actor and whether or not you'd like to see him return to daytime.
