Amidst chatter of a surprise return to The Young and the Restless, Michael Muhney (Adam Newman) clear up rumors that he's headed back to Genoa City -- rumors that he seems to have started.
Rumors abounded this week about some pretty huge soap opera returns, which obviously got The Young and the Restless fans buzzing about the possibility of Michael Muhney returning in the role of Adam Newman. While it has since been announced that the big return was actually Steve Burton heading back to General Hospital, the Muhney buzz reached a fever pitch that got the actor himself to address his status with the CBS soap.
In response to one fan who asked when he'd be back in Genoa City because her mom keeps asking, he reportedly wrote (and then deleted), "Tell her to be patient. It'll be worth the wait! As least, I hope so!"
As fans may recall, Muhney stepped into the role of Victor's son in 2009 and quickly became a fan favorite. Much to viewers' dismay, he exited the soap in 2014 amidst a slew of unproven, unflattering rumors about an inappropriate encounter with a female costar. Justin Hartley replaced Muhney in the legacy role in 2014 and also managed to win the hearts of daytime fans. However, he exited in 2016 after landing a role on the primetime hit series This Is Us.

With two fan-favorite actors departing the role in the span of just two years, Y&R made the decision to not immediately recast the character. In fact, writers at the CBS drama penned a storyline in which Adam died in a cabin explosion after being shot with a dart by Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson), who was seeking revenge for the hit-and-run death of her daughter Delia.
There's no telling how the writers would reverse Adam's death if the show chose to bring Muhney back in the legacy role. But as fans of soap operas surely know by now, there's a way to reverse any soap opera death, no matter how "dead" the character might have been.
But will Muhney be stepping back into his iconic role? With fans essentially convinced a return will happen, he stepped in to clarify things.
"There is no return to Y&R at this point," he reveals. "But who knows what the future holds? Look, there ain't nothin' like a little positivity and good vibes to mold future events. Be positive. Think positive. Tweet positive."
He continues: "Believe me, I know you guys are psyched to see me on TV soon. I promise I will tell you where and when you need to tune in. Hang in there!"
What do you think about the possibility of Muhney returning to Y&R? Would you like to see him reprise the role? Or would you rather the writers keep Adam off the canvas?
