Y&R head writer on Adam Newman:  I'm not looking to bring that character back

The Young and the Restless' new head writer, Sally Sussman, firmly declares there will be no miraculous Adam return.

The good news is that The Young and the Restless' new head writer, Sally Sussman, has extremely exciting plans to get the CBS soap looking more like the show longtime fans have adored. The bad news, for many, is that the character of Adam Newman will not be in the picture.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, Sussman declared that she has no plans to delve into the real story behind Christian's paternity. "I'm not playing it at all," she says of the fact that Adam, not Nick, is the baby's real dad. "Adam is off the show. And Justin Hartley will never be back. He's too successful now. He's gone."

What's more, the longtime soap scribe doesn't see the point of focusing on that specific story twist or the character of Adam -- at least in the moment. "I don't see that we need it. Nick believes this baby is his and for all intents and purposes, it is," she explains. "When and if an Adam comes up, then we'll deal with it. I'm not looking to bring that character back nor do I want to do a paternity reveal involving a character who is off-camera. Unless there is a compelling reason to have Nick learn the truth, I see no reason to go there. What purpose would it serve to do it now? Look, how long did Bill Bell play the truth about Michael Horton's paternity on Days of our Lives? [Laughs] He got like, what, 10 years out of it?"

That being said, Sussman has a lot of plans that will make Y&R fans sing about the show again. For more on what viewers can expect to see -- and not see -- once her material debuts on Wednesday, December 6, check out TV Insider's original interview here.
