Y&R alum Ken Howard dead at 71

Former The Young and the Restless and Dynasty star Ken Howard (ex-George Summers) has died.

The Young and the Restless alum Ken Howard (ex-George Summers) has passed away. The actor, who has been serving as the SAG-AFTRA President since 2009, was 71.

Howard's career spanned several decades, but soap opera fans know him best as Phyllis and Avery's dad, a role he played for a brief period in 2012.

Prior to coming to Genoa City, the California native earned a lengthy rsum with credits on shows like The White Shadow; The Manhunter; It's Not Easy; The Colbys; Murder, She Wrote; Melrose Place; Crossing Jordan; The West Wing; and 30 Rock. He also starred as Dynasty's Garrett Boydston from 1985 to 1986.

"Very sad to hear of the passing of Ken Howard," wrote Jessica Collins on Twitter. "A brilliant actor, a true professional, a lovely man. I was lucky to know and work with him."

Michelle Stafford also expressed her regrets via social media. "White Shadow, White Knight, a beautiful, talented, FUNNY man. I was so lucky to work with him. It was my honor #RIP Ken Howard"

No cause of death has been released.
