Oscar winner Francis Ford Coppola visits Y&R

The Young and the Restless apparently made director Francis Ford Coppola an offer he couldn't refuse, and the Oscar winner spent some time on the set of the CBS soap.

Academy Award-winning writer/producer Francis Ford Coppola visited the set and control room of The Young and the Restless this week.

The Huffington Post reports that Coppola was interested in learning more about multi-camera filming and live television, possibly in advance of his working on another television project.

"I'm enjoying being at The Young and the Restless. The people are wonderful. I'm learning a lot," Coppola said of his experience at Y&R.

There's no word why the six-time Oscar winner chose The Young and the Restless over the three other televised soaps, but it is not the first time that Y&R's executive producer Jill Farren Phelps has rubbed shoulders with the Hollywood elite. During her stint as EP at General Hospital, Academy Award nominee James Franco had a recurring role on the ABC soap.

Though Coppola is most often thought of for his work on The Godfather trilogy, he does have experience in television. In 1977, he oversaw a television adaptation of The Godfather. His most recent TV project was as executive producer of the UPN series Platinum, which co-starred former Y&R starlet Davetta Sherwood (ex-Lily Winters).
