Marcy Rylan returning to Y&R

Marcy Rylan returning to Y&R

Perhaps realizing the error of a decision made earlier this fall, The Young and the Restless has reconsidered writing Abby Newman off the canvas. A newly published report reveals that Marcy Rylan is headed back to the CBS soap in January.

At least one of The Young and the Restless' mass firings is about be undone, according to a published report. Fan favorite Marcy Rylan (Abby Newman) is headed back to the top-rated CBS soap to reprise her role as Abby.

Soap Opera Digest is reporting that Rylan will return to work in January.

In September, Rylan was let go as part of a massive housecleaning by the show's then-new executive producer, Jill Farren Phelps, who was given the task of trimming the show's roster and operating costs. No less than half a dozen performers were let go in the sweep, and while most fans agreed that the show's canvas had become bloated with characters that had little story and no connections to Y&R's past, most were caught off-guard by the decision to axe an actress who played a character with ties to the show's two main families.

Rylan joined The Young and the Restless in March 2010 as an "aged" recast of Abby. Prior to joining Y&R, the actress appeared for three years on Guiding Light as Lizzie Spaulding. In each of her three years of eligibility, Rylan was pre-nominated by her peers in Guiding Light's in-house Outstanding Supporting Actress Daytime Emmy vote.

Rylan is scheduled to return to work in January. This time around, however, the actress will be on recurring status.

The Young and the Restless does not comment on contracts.
