Ron Carlivati, currently on the writing team of Beyond the Gates, is also known for his turns as head writer on General Hospital and Days of our Lives. The writer is sharing the heartbreaking news that his father, Ron Carlivati, Sr., has passed away.

"Sad to announce the passing of my dad, Ron Carlivati, at the age of 90. If you knew him, you probably loved him as much as we did…" Carlivati wrote on Instagram.
According to Carlivati's obituary in the Democrat and Chronicle, the senior Carlivati passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, in Rochester, NY. He was born Ronald Samuel Carlivati on December 10, 1934. He studied at St. Philip Neri and Franklin High School before furthering his education at Alfred University and RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology). He worked for Xerox for many years.
Carlivati is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, and his children, a daughter, Christine, his son, Ron, and his son-in-law, David Rogal. He is additionally survived by his brothers, Peter and David; sisters-in-law Debby Fasino, Dianne and Jeanne Carlivati, and Josie Gangemi; brothers-in-law, James Fasino and Richard Gangemi; nephews Richard, Jay, and Rick; nieces Jill and Lisa; and his lifelong friend Walter Licata. He was predeceased by his father Philip, mother Clara, and brother Phil.
A cherished TV memory
Days of our Lives viewers got to see Carlivati, before his son became a writer at Beyond the Gates, when he appeared on the Peacock (then, NBC) drama on October 25, 2019, as a doctor in a scene with Mary Beth Evans (Dr. Kayla Brady Johnson). "Loved meeting/working with him," Evans.
Carlivati's daytime friends are sharing messages of sympathy and support. "I'm so sorry for your loss, Ron, maybe your father's memory be a blessing," wrote Julie Dove (ex-Connie). "Sending you big hugs."
"So sorry for your loss, Ron," wrote Mark Lawson, who played Brody on One Life to Live, the soap opera that Carlivati head wrote. "Keeping you in my thoughts."
"I'm so sorry," posted Courtney Hope (Sally, The Young and the Restless). "My heart is with you."
Broadway star Betty Buckley (Cats), best known to TV viewers as the loving Abby Bradford on Eight is Enough, wrote on Carlivati's post: "So sorry for your loss."
Donations in Carlivati's memory can be made to the Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, which has been helping animals and people since 1873.
