On Beyond the Gates, Shanice stood firm against Leslie, who didn't want the nurses supervisor crushing on Ted; meanwhile, Leslie flirted heavily with Marcel, which led to their first time in bed. Randy didn't know what to think when he saw Marcel making out with Leslie at Uptown.

Vanessa found out about Anita's cancer, and the possibility that Dani and/or Nicole could have inherited a mutation of the immune system inhibitor gene BRCA, which, like Anita, would make them more susceptible to developing tumors. Joey was stunned when Vanessa advocated for him to fund the free clinic Leslie wanted to build and name it in honor of Doug; Leslie was only willing to devote a room in Doug's name but was thrilled that Joey was willing to partner with her on the facility.

Eva had trouble accepting Izaiah's attention because of the hit her self-esteem had taken by being raised to believe her father didn't want her; the two agreed to trust each other with their vulnerabilities. Ashley revealed that Jan was dating a man she had met on her cruise but disapproved of how intense her mom was being about the new relationship. Shanice had to be badgered into sharing anything with Ashley about Ted, who later challenged her to take a second ride with him in the elevator in which they had gotten stuck.

After Jessica became downright insulting in her dislike of right of passage debutante balls, Tyrell sided with her, only to find his family members so interwoven into the practice that they dismissed what he had to say. Tyrell was willing to hear Nicole's explanation of cotillion history and how the galas became a source of empowerment for Black people, but he was more worried about Jessica's insistence that she attend UCLA to get away from them.

Seeing that Anita preferred to stay in control following her cancer diagnosis, Tracy needled her friend until she had a physical reaction as a way of preventing Anita from bottling up her feelings. With her first chemotherapy treatment scheduled for the next day, Anita roped Vernon into helping her throw an impromptu – and early – Mardi Gras party as a way of celebrating what they had.

Kat woke up hungover from her alcohol-fueled response to discovering that she might carry the BRCA gene mutation and continued to avoid telling Tomás about it, informing him that she wanted to deal with the news of her grandmother's cancer alone. After Chelsea learned that Madison's aunt had died of cancer because she had listened to Willow's anti-medicine rhetoric, she pushed for Kat to take care of herself by testing for the mutation, but Kat's refusal led to the usually amiable cousins having a fight. Dani and Nicole had blood drawn to get screened themselves and strained to live normally waiting for the results; it was only because Vernon pulled some strings with the hospital's chief of staff that they were able to get their news sooner than later. Nicole was relieved to learn that she wasn't a carrier of the BRCA mutation, but she was horrified when it turned out Dani was.

Beyond the Gates airs weekdays on CBS and streams on Paramount Plus.
