What happened on Beyond the Gates
On Beyond the Gates, Leslie had a public blow-up at Orphey Gene's after being taken to task by Nicole, Mona, Jan, and Eva. Dani and Anita flamed Ted for not cleaning up his own messes with Nicole and Leslie, then sympathized with Eva while warning Eva she would never be a Dupree. Dani took Nicole to the club to cheer her up, only for them to find Ted lunching with Eva. Ted got Eva a position at a swanky salon and promised Nicole that they'd be back together by their next anniversary.
Nicole wondered if something was going on between Dani and Andre after Dani defended his keeping Ted's secret. Vanessa talked Nicole out of selling her house, then turned down an invitation to join Joey at his home. Randy seemingly discouraged Doug from gambling again, yet Doug snuck back into the casino and stayed overnight, betting. Doug resisted Joey's pressuring him to get the money he owed from Vanessa, causing Joey to threaten Doug with bodily harm if he wasn't paid within a week.
Bill hid his shaking hand from Hayley, then stood firm against Leslie after he served her with a cease-and-desist order. Bill told Ted to handle Leslie before she struck again, and was vague when Naomi confronted him about long-ago terrorizing Leslie to ensure she aborted Ted's baby. Martin abandoned his presidential aspirations after another series of nightmares, causing Smitty to pursue what Bill had meant by insinuating that Bill and Martin needed to be on the same team; Bill advised Smitty to ask Martin about it directly.
With consistent support from Vernon, Anita called her former Articulettes singers ahead of a possible comeback concert: Sharon hung up on Anita, but Tracy agreed to meet the Duprees for dinner. June contracted pneumonia from living on the streets and required heart surgery; she minimized a photo of children that she kept but secretly caressed the image. After Derek and Ashley's adjustment to living together included not making love, Derek proposed they get a bigger place, but Ashley thought their problems went beyond the close quarters and later had a charged reminiscence with Andre.

Eva begged Leslie to let her come home, but Leslie coldly rejected her daughter. Martin felt bad for Eva and asked her over for dinner with his family; Kat refused to attend. Tyrell was initially embarrassed that Samantha had invited Jessica to join them as well; Samantha copped an attitude toward Eva until the hairstylist gave her a makeover. Kat learned from Nicole that Eva's DNA test was genuine, and then began to think that it had either been Eva or Leslie who had run Laura off the road. Kat recorded Leslie implying that Eva had hospitalized Laura and went to Jacob, who informed Leslie that she needed to come to the police station for questioning.
