Here's your Beyond the Gates recap for Monday, April 14, 2025, when Hayley had a big surprise.
What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Nicole decorated for the birthday party of Kat, her “miracle baby.” As Nicole and Anita had a quick chat about Febreze, Nicole admitted she'd originally wanted the party theme to be “Bridgerton meets Bratz,” but Kat had scaled her down to a simple family-only event. Nicole received flowers from Ted, who meant to thank her for bringing Kat into the world. Nicole recalled how, before Kat was born, she had been so angry with her body for miscarrying and had felt abandoned because Ted started spending time out of the house more often. Nicole told Anita that it wasn't just Kat's birthday; it was the anniversary of the rebirth of her marriage to Ted.
Vernon arrived at Dani's just as she burst into tears. Comforting her, Vernon sympathized with her bad year and spoke of his bad decade, when he was an activist having to prove himself – his father, Paul “Cheeks” Dupree, had founded Fairmont Crest so that they could have a place of their own, free of segregation and contempt, but there had been those who had felt that Vernon was riding on his Paul's coattails and couldn't, on his own, handle the consequences of the civil rights protests. Vernon divulged that he'd found direction once he met Anita. Dani felt ashamed to compare her year with even one of Vernon's.
Dani was mortified that she had dragged her family through the mud and the media as a result of her out-there behavior. She had gone from simply being the icon who had retired too early to forever being a Gunslinger Dani meme. Dani lamented her parents having to create a new charity to replace the one Dani had been booted from, but Vernon said there was nothing wrong with needing a helping hand. He proclaimed that Dani's mistakes were nothing compared to Bill's in leaving her. Dani realized that she couldn't let Bill keep using her hope against her, prompting Vernon to ask what Bill had done.
Dani explained how she had kissed Bill, having read into his walk down Memory Lane only to learn that Bill had wanted to wear Dani down so Hayley would have an easier time at the country club. Vernon wrote Hayley off as a trophy wife, but Dani conceded that Bill loved Hayley and looked at her the way he used to look at Dani; she had come to the realization that things were really over with Bill, a crossroad Vernon deemed huge. Dani grudgingly agreed to come to Kat's party after Vernon urged her not to let Bill steal another moment of happiness from her.
Naomi met with Bill, who snarked that he was seeing his daughter more during her case than he had in the months prior. Undeterred, Naomi revealed that she knew Bill's firm was claiming it was unavailable to give depositions when their court docket was, in fact, open. When Bill granted that the courts allowed for doctor's visits, Naomi dropped the antagonism, worried that the numbness in Bill's hand had come back. Bill said it hadn't and that he was just going in for a physical, which Naomi pressured Bill to move up. She wanted to believe Bill's assertion that he was fine, but she couldn't tell with him what was and wasn't a lie anymore. Stung, Bill asked if he had to be on death's door for Naomi to care about him.
Naomi vowed to take Bill to his doctor's appointment herself unless he could assure her he'd have his physician run a battery of tests. Bill smiled, saying that every instruction from Naomi was like a big hug. Naomi didn't want Bill to be deflected from the health concern, and he promised to report what his doctor had said.
Bill cheerily told Hayley that he felt he was starting to get his daughters back, but Hayley sensed that his progress might backfire – because she might be pregnant. She had only been late and hadn't confirmed a pregnancy yet one way or the other. Bill seemed more stone-faced than joyous, noting that they had been careful. Hayley said she had almost always taken her birth control pills; when Bill balked, Hayley attributed any possible lapses to the wedding and the craziness with Dani. Bill reminded Hayley that they had concurred about living their lives for themselves without having to think about a child – Hayley was in accord with that but just barely stopped herself from saying it would be nice to have a baby with Bill.
Hayley fretted that Naomi might hate her even more for being pregnant by Bill, who encouraged Hayley to concentrate on her own feelings. Could she be happy never having a child? Hayley acknowledged that she had everything she wanted with Bill in the present and wouldn't know the first thing about being a mother. Bill asked if Hayley really wanted to be one; Hayley was caught between what she was feeling and what she thought Bill wanted to hear. Mrs. Hamilton wasn't repulsed by the idea of meeting a little human that was part of them and maintained that Bill would fight for their child the way he'd always fought for Naomi and Chelsea. Bill softened and liked the idea of having a boy since he already had two girls.
At Orphey Gene's, Tomás gave Kat a cupcake with a birthday candle in it. She made her wish, and Tomás said there were some things one needed to wish for and other things one could simply have when they were ready. Kat took life inventory on birthdays and wanted to celebrate, assuming Tomás still would do so with her after her male relatives grilled him at the fashion show. Tomás was willing to attend and presented Kat with a calculator necklace; he said it was intended to represent her dream and all the money she was going to have to count up working with Chelsea. Kat loved it and let Tomás put the necklace on her.
Jacob met Naomi at the diner, sensing she was troubled about Bill. Naomi felt confident about her case but was aware that its victory could bankrupt Bill's firm. Jacob wondered if something had changed that would make Naomi give Bill the forgiveness he wanted. Hearing about Bill's hand having gone numb, Jacob proposed that Bill could be faking to get Naomi to drop the suit. Naomi questioned if Hayley would even call her should Bill ever get sick. Jacob could see that Naomi both wanted to cream Bill in court but also have him in her life somehow and asked Naomi if she still felt she was the one who could deliver justice to Mike's sexual harassment victims. Naomi teetered, sure she'd fail the women if she showed the slightest bit of worry about Bill in court. Later, Naomi returned to Bill's firm and dropped a bombshell: she was withdrawing from the case. She would no longer be representing Mike's accusers.
Leslie wanted to spend the gorgeous day having a picnic in the park with Eva, who reminded her mom that they shouldn't be seen together. Leslie intuited that Eva was still hurt by the angry things Leslie had said when Eva had accused her of harming Laura; Eva explained that she was trying to do everything Leslie wanted, but it was confusing at times. Leslie admitted she had overreacted to Eva's implication and had been sad that the Richardsons were getting more of Eva than Leslie was. Leslie felt responsible, as she had put the onus on Eva for her revenge plan against Ted. Eva said that she had taken the task on willingly.
Leslie wanted Eva to prepare for claiming her birthright. Leslie knew that both Nicole and Fairmont Crest would turn their backs on Ted when they found out what he'd done. Eva feared that everyone would know what she had done, as well – Kat had been right in labeling her a phony, and the Richardsons would think ill of Eva for her deception. Leslie didn't want Eva comparing herself to Kat but mused if Eva's concern had to do with “that boy.” Eva got defensive, said it didn't, and left for a walk.
Nicole placed a tiara on the head of Kat, who swore she'd never be too cool to skip out on partying with her parents. Ted congratulated himself and Nicole for having Kat in the first place. At Kat's insistence, Ted promised to go easy on Tomás. Once the party started, Anita insisted she'd pay for one of Chelsea's bags, and Kat declared that Anita Dupree carrying one would create a walking billboard. Privately, Chelsea noticed the necklace Tomás had given Kat and smirked that he could be a birthday present that Kat could give herself. Kat analogized that she wanted to know “the cake” first, otherwise it would just be empty calories. “Well, do you have to love the cake to eat the cake?” Chelsea grinned. Kat just wanted to be able to trust “the cake.”
The mood was jovial as Kat advised the entering Tomás to ignore Martin, who said Tomás should feel glad he was the first guy in Kat's life whom Martin and the family had felt worthy of initiating. Ted watched from afar and told Nicole that Kat finally seemed smitten.
Eva came in, stunned, since there had been no celebration on Nicole's calendar; she had only come by to retrieve a left-behind coat. Nicole invited Eva to stay for some cake while she fetched it. Kat's smile faded when she caught a glimpse of Eva. Later, Anita led a spirited rendition of “Happy Birthday” with the family on backup, after which Eva wondered aloud to Tomás if Kat had any idea what she had. Nicole, Eva surmised, probably had Kat's pity parties catered. Kat heard and didn't appreciate Eva coming in uninvited or trashing her to her date. Kat sent Eva on her way, which Tomás felt had been harsh. Kat sniffed that the wish she should have made while blowing out her candles was for Eva to be exposed.
Ted followed the tearful Eva to the foyer, sure that all the family warmth made her miss her “deceased” mother and the father she had never met. Eva cried that “the woman who raised her” had always gone all out when it came to her. Ted assured Eva she was welcome in his family anytime and hugged her. Tomás saw Eva leaving and inquired if she was okay; Eva announced that Kat had been right...Eva didn't belong there.
Eva came home to find that Leslie had thrown her an impromptu party of her own, complete with cake – even though Eva's birthday wouldn't be for a few more weeks. Leslie could tell that Eva had been feeling down and remembered how their past pop-up celebrations had made her feel better. Eva blew out her candle, and Leslie told her daughter she loved her.
Vernon was glad to see Dani enjoying herself at the party, sharing his observation with Anita that he hadn't seen her doing so in a long time. Nicole checked on Dani, knowing she was “hanging on by [her] own manicure.” Dani decided it was wonderful and awful to be known so well by Nicole.
After the party, the Duprees and the Richardsons concluded that Tomás was probably okay; “I think he'll do,” Vernon decided. The patriarch was also pleased over how lighthearted both Dani and Martin had been. However, at home, Dani gulped down a big glass of vodka, barely holding it together.
