“Would suck if it just ends there” – Countdown star Jensen Ackles talks epic finale and whether Season 2 could happen

The crime thriller, Countdown, became the talk of the town right from the moment it was released. With each episode, the series gained more popularity amongst crime show enthusiasts. Countdown, from the very beginning, hooks the viewers with the perfect plot to keep them engrossed.

The ending, which can be defined as an epic, is not only a thrilling ride but also leaves us with two major cliffhangers. Hence, it would be quite disappointing if the creators of the show suddenly decided not to progress with another season. Jensen Ackles, in a recent interview with Variety, also spoke on the same, about the possibility of a second season.

Countdown star Jensen Ackles’s thoughts on whether Season 2 could happen

The two cliffhangers at the end of the first season focus on Agent Sepherd and Agent Oliveras. Each of the plot lines has the potential to change the storyline considerably. Hence, it would definitely be a heartbreak if we do not get to see where their storylines lead.

In the Variety interview, Jensen Ackles is positively thrilled about the huge response the series is receiving from critics and the streaming platform. It cannot be denied that Countdown definitely shines with his performance as Mark Meachum. Hence, when asked why the creators leave the first season with such massive cliffhangers, he says it is a “smart writer choice” and

“ it would suck if it just ends there!”

Every character that Jensen Ackles plays, he completely embodies the role. This is one of the reasons he feels so strongly about giving the storyline of Countdown a proper ending and not just leaving it at a cliffhanger. While discussing the creator of Countdown, Jensen Ackles says in an interview with TV Insider that

“I got a clear sense of what he wanted to do.”

Hence, it would not be wrong to assume that the series would definitely have a good ending. The ending of the first season marks the direction towards the introduction of a bigger story. It acted as a transition. The addition of the new villain definitely needs to have a proper ending and not just a cliffhanger.

In the first season of Countdown, we see Meachum always trying to do the right thing despite having his own difficulties to face. He is not a one-dimensional character. He is a character with immense complexities. This aspect makes the viewers eager to dive into the storyline.

Despite his own struggles, he does not want others to know. At the end of the series, we see that Oliveras is put in grave danger. It would be intriguing to see how Meachum handles the situation moving forward. In the series, we see that Meachum opens up about his bond with Oliveras.

He admits the uniqueness of their bond, which, however, turns in a different direction. There is a layer of vulnerability that prevents Mark Meachum and Amber Oliveras from working out their feelings.

All the indications for season two of the series seem positive. Hence, there is a huge possibility that the series will return with another season. It is now time for us viewers to begin the waiting game to know whether the series will actually have a comeback or not. The finale of season one definitely seems like a promise to bring forth new challenges and possibilities for the future.
