The Brazilian crime thriller Rulers of Fortune (or Os Donos do Jogo) hit Netflix on October 29, 2025.

Set in the dangerous world of Rio de Janeiro’s underground gambling scene, the show draws you right into Profeta Moraes’ climb up the city’s criminal food chain. Heitor Dhalia directs, and with André Lamoglia leading the cast, you get a mix of suspense, family drama, and cutthroat power plays. The first season wrapped with Profeta locking down his position, and left a whole lot of people wondering what comes next.

Even though the series has been a big hit, landing near the top of Netflix’s global crime thriller charts, there is still no word from Netflix about a second season. The silence has everyone buzzing, fans and critics both.

There are still plenty of loose ends, unfinished storylines, and Profeta’s journey is just begging for more. So, what is actually going on behind the scenes? Let’s dig into what we know so far.

As of November 2025, Netflix still hasn’t said anything official about a second season of Rulers of Fortune.

Fans are buzzing online, and there is plenty of talk, but Netflix hasn’t confirmed anything about bringing the show back. The cast and creators haven’t shared any updates either, so everyone is left guessing.

Netflix usually considers a variety of aspects when renewing a show, starting with the number of viewers, the number of people who watch the whole season, and the number of people the show has attracted in different countries, especially non-English-speaking ones.

In addition to that, Netflix also calculates the production costs against the number of subscribers they expect to gain from the show, not to mention that they also monitor the online discussions and the show's alignment with their brand.

Bela Bajaria, the Chief Content Officer of Netflix, mentioned that they don't simply fill a fixed number of slots. Instead, they aim at creating a lineup that is new and is able to entice viewers to keep coming back, particularly with those series that have the potential to expand and attract viewers from different parts of the world. When a show remains popular or looks like it can grow even more, Netflix grants it additional seasons.

Bajaria was quoted as saying by Tom’s Guide:

“Our audiences expect us to have the best of everything. And we try to keep them on their toes with some unexpected surprises too. That's why when we have the opportunity to take big, bold swings and get the NFL on Christmas Day, a surprise boxing match, or the WWE every week, we move quickly and we make it happen.”

Rulers of Fortune is off to a good start. By November 3, 2025, it landed at #5 on Netflix’s global TV show chart, scoring 285 points on FlixPatrol. The show is popping up in Netflix’s Top 10 in a bunch of countries. In Brazil, it cracked the top TV shows list, since that is where it comes from.

On RatingGraph, it is pulling an average of 8.8 out of 10, although that is just from 87 people, so, a tiny sample. On IMDb, the rating sits at 6.6 from 316 users. Not bad, not amazing. It is respectable, but it doesn’t scream “runaway hit” (at least not yet).

The fact that Rulers of Fortune is breaking into the global Top 10, even peaking at #6 with around 300 points, shows it’s getting some real attention. People are watching. That is always a good sign.

Still, we don’t have the real behind-the-scenes numbers, like total hours watched, how many people finish the whole season, or where viewers drop off. Netflix cares about those details when deciding what to renew, so without them, it is hard to know how strong the show really is inside the company.

What is interesting is the show’s Brazilian roots. That is a plus for Netflix, which is big on regional originals these days. But if they want this show to break out beyond Brazil or Portuguese-speaking audiences, they are going to have to work a little harder. The bar is higher when you are aiming for a global crowd.

Why Rulers of Fortune Season 2 could happen?

Rulers of Fortune Season 1 ends with a bunch of loose threads and big twists that almost beg for a second season. Profeta grabs control of Rio’s gambling world and lands a seat on the all-powerful board, but now he is in the hot seat. He has to juggle rivalries, shifting alliances, and all the baggage that comes with his new power, plenty for the story to dig into if it keeps going.

Entertainment sites like Moviedelic and High On Films are already speculating about how Profeta will handle the pressure. Then there is the bombshell: Profeta finds out that Leila, a major player on the board, is actually his mother. He keeps it to himself, which just piles on more tension. You can feel the weight of what he is not saying every time they are in a room together. That secret alone is enough to drive a whole new season.

Add in Profeta’s marriage to Mirna (which boosts his status but complicates his life), plus the messy family ties and rivalries, and you have a whole web of drama that fans are dying to see unravel.

Some reports suggest new characters might show up from other parts of Brazil’s gambling world. If that happens, Rulers of Fortune gets even bigger, and Profeta’s grip on power gets tested in new ways. And don’t forget about Suzana: she is out of the city now, but people are guessing she is not out of the story just yet.

Still, Netflix hasn’t officially renewed Rulers of Fortune for season two. So the whole thing is up in the air.
