The network has announced that FBI will have an eighth season as part of a deal for three seasons announced in April 2024. The series will air at least through Season 9, which is set to air during the 2026–2027 season.

FBI entered CBS's programming in 2018 and has since been a part of it every week, showing the activities of the New York office of the FBI. Thanks to its ongoing popularity, the show has stayed on the network for many years and is set to continue for at least for two more seasons.

While a precise premiere date for Season 8 is yet to be announced, the series traditionally hits the screens during the fall. Season 7 began airing in October 2024, so it's reasonable to anticipate a similar timeframe for the upcoming season.

Notably, there will be a change in the broadcast schedule: FBI will move from its usual Tuesday 8/7c slot to Mondays at 9/8c. This shift accommodates the introduction of a new spin-off series, CIA, which will occupy the 10/9c slot on Mondays. The scheduling adjustment shows CBS's efforts to reorganize its programming schedule following the cancellation of other shows in the franchise.

The Season 7 finale introduced significant plot developments

Season 7 concluded with significant developments that are expected to influence the narrative direction of Season 8. In the finale titled A New Day, an extremist group named Forefront infiltrated the FBI, resulting in the deaths of nine agents, including Assistant Director in Charge Reynolds.

Deputy Assistant Director Simon Keene was revealed to be a mole collaborating with Forefront. The episode ended with Special Agent Isobel Castille collapsing outside the FBI office, leaving her fate uncertain. These events set the stage for potential leadership changes and internal challenges within the Bureau in the upcoming season.

Fans are expecting to see Missy Peregrym (Maggie Bell), Zeeko Zaki (Omar Adom 'OA' Zidan), Jeremy Sisto (Jubal Valentine), Alana De La Garza (Isobel Castille), and John Boyd (Stuart Scola) back as the core cast. But some of the main actors have recently been switched.

Katherine Renee Kane, who portrayed Special Agent Tiffany Wallace, departed the series in the Season 7 premiere. Lisette Olivera joined as Behavioral Analysis Unit Agent Syd Ortiz but exited after a few episodes. Emily Alabi was subsequently introduced as Scola's new partner, Dani Rhodes, though her continued presence in Season 8 remains to be confirmed.

The franchise is changing with a new spin-off in development

Along with the main show, CBS is releasing a different series known as CIA. Due to air in 2025–2026, the series will deal with the cooperation of the FBI and CIA in addressing terrorism within New York City. The TV series will star Tom Ellis as a CIA officer who teams up with an FBI agent.

As each of the cancelled series lasted six and four seasons, this new group is coming to take their place. The fact that CBS added CIA to the franchise shows they still want to explore different issues around national security in future episodes.

FBI is set to continue with its eighth season in fall 2025, featuring scheduling changes and new narrative directions following the events of Season 7. The franchise is also expanding with the introduction of CIA, reflecting CBS's strategy to refresh its lineup while maintaining viewer interest in procedural dramas.
