Vivienne's past catches up to her, and Max and Cole's relationship takes a turn in Wild Cards Season 3 Episode 1

The first episode of Wild Cards Season 3 starts with Max returning to working as a consultant. She is now officially part of the team with her own batch. The crime rate has risen, which is causing immense worry for Yates. After Max arrives at the crime scene where a man is shot, she uses her observation skills to understand that the victim was a pool player through the calluses on his palm and the chalk marks.

She asks Yates if they searched the nearby pool halls within a five-mile radius, they would be able to identify the victim. Back at the station, Yates’s mood becomes the constant talk of everyone. Max then gets called to the chief’s office. Right after she enters the chief’s office, she finds that Cole is waiting.

Cole is now proven innocent; hence, the chief is bringing him back, and Max is his partner once again. It can be understood that Max is quite surprised by the turn of events. Cole and Max then begin to discuss the past events. Cole assures her that if she feels uncomfortable being his partner, he will speak to the chief and make the arrangements right away.

He also asks if anything new has been happening in her life. However, Max does not reveal that her mother is back. Cole also clarifies his emotional state, which caused him to ask Max to accompany him.

As this episode of Wild Cards Season 3 progresses, Max’s idea was right. The victim, Tommy, was an exceptional pool player. A man named Monty arrived to give details about the victim. Monty says that the victim arrived at his billiards room, but he did not know anything about what happened to him after that.

Max sends a message to Yates to ask Tommy about Monte’s current earning source, to which Monty gives a doubtful reply. Max understands that Tommy was a pool hustler, as he could easily earn more money doing it rather than playing pool professionally. Monty did not tell the truth, as the police would arrive at his place, which he does not want, as the owners take 15% of the action. Cole and Max are given the case and decide to visit the pool hall undercover.

They did not get the response they were expecting, as the visitors there were mourning for Tommy. Max and Cole begin to discuss ways to work their way into the crowd so that they are able to find the truth about Tommy. A flashback scene also reveals that Max’s mother was away for fifteen years because she was running away from Gedeon Varga. Gedeon Varga is a very dangerous man, and he is behind the casino robbery, which Max’s mother committed, causing her to get under his radar.

At the pool hall, Max finds out about Kelly, Tommy’s grieving girlfriend, and Salvatore, Tommy’s stakehorse, while Cole finds out about Jose, who could be the potential killer, as Salvatore originally staked him, but Tommy took the spot. Max begins to play pool with Jose and begins to ask him about Tommy. However, Jose tells them that he was drunk last night and passed out.

This episode of Wild Cards Season 3 continues; at the station, Yates tries to sabotage Cole so that she can stay at number one. Back at the pool hall, Max and Cole witness Burt arrive with Tommy’s jacket and a huge amount of cash. Max and Cole get quite suspicious about him. The two of them then begin to question Burt, who reveals that Salvatore bet against Tommy.

Max and Cole understand that he did it because he did not want everyone to know that the match was fixed. Their focus now shifts to Salvatore. On the other hand, Vivienne tells the details about the things she went through while she was away, as she was caught by Gedeon. Vivienne then says that though she tried to keep them safe from Gedeon Varga’s wrath, after her true identity was exposed, she now has no other way but to repay 100 million dollars to Varga or get everyone killed.

As this episode of Wild Cards Season 3 continues, Max and Cole find out that Tommy and Salvatore were having quarrels about Kelly. Max decides to find out more about it through Kelly right then. Myrna falls, and from the bag, a gun can be seen. The gun was the same caliber gun with which Tommy was killed. Kelly is brought in for questioning.

She reveals that she did not cheat with Salvatore. She also tells them that Salvatore is refusing to give her the cut of the money she deserves. At the end of this episode of Wild Cards Season 3, Max and Cole arrive at the pool house to play a game with Salvatore to expose the truth. Max then reveals that Myrna was actually taking revenge for the death of her husband.

She placed herself at the pool hall to find the secrets and weaknesses of them so that she could plant doubts and cause chaos. She took the gun from the safe and used it to kill Tommy and frame Kelly. Tommy’s win against Myrna’s husband caused him to lose his house and everything. He could not bear it and killed himself, leaving Myrna behind. Myrna finally accepts the truth. The unexpected twists and turns through the episode perfectly set the stage for the intensity that Wild Cards Season 3 will have.

At the very end of Wild Cards Season 3 Episode 1, Ricky voices her skepticism about Vivienne asking for the money to be quite convenient, considering they also gained a huge amount of money at the same time. Max then goes to meet Cole at his boat, where she finds Jessica. Max was not expecting Cole to have someone at his boat.

Max returns home to find Tomo Hayashi waiting for them for the transfer of the money for Varga. He also tells them that they are 30 million short, as Vivienne was late to repay the money by fifteen years. He then tells them that Varga has an offer for their freedom, which is that they will have to steal a diamond for him.
