The fan-favorite vampires from Staten Island won't return after the ongoing What We Do in the Shadows Season 6, as it has been officially canceled. The horror-comedy premiered on FX in 2019 and quickly gained popularity for its intriguing narrative.
What We Do in the Shadows revolves around the four titular vampires, Nandor, Laszlo, Nadia, and Colin Robinson, and the beloved Guillermo, without whom these vampires wouldn't have survived in the modern era. Fans get to see a modern society Vs. ancient society dynamic, as the vampires find it hard to adapt to the contemporary world.
What makes their journey even more comedic is that the vampires are often confused with modern technology and everyday situations despite having supernatural powers. What We Do in the Shadows has made it to the sixth season, but won't go beyond it.
As explained by FX chairman John Landgraf, What We Do in the Shadows has reached a satisfying conclusion, and doesn't require more seasons. The ongoing season will tie all loose ends and conclude the story arc of each character.
What We Do in the Shadows is officially ending after Season 6 on FX
The misadventures, murders, and humorous rivalries will soon end as What We Do in the Shadows is reaching its finale episode. Showrunner Paul Simms, along with the writers of the series discussed the latest chapter and also shed light on the cancellation at FX’s New York Comic Con panel.
Simms reflected on the show's popularity and believes it's the right time to end it before fans lose interest in the spooky and engaging narrative of What We Do in the Shadows. He said:
"I think it’s better to go out on top, and better too soon than too late. I don’t want to stay long enough that this auditorium would just have a few people in the front..."
Simms also addressed fans' questions and ensured that his writers and cast members added everything they desired for Season 6. Viewers can expect to watch a full vision of the series through its last chapter.
Since writers Naftalis and Johnson were also present at the event, they were asked to hint at what's in store for Season 6. Johnson claimed that viewers will enjoy "Murder. Mayhem … a lot of office stuff..."
Guillermo will find his own identity in What We Do in the Shadows Season 6
Being the only familiar among the vampires, Guillermo gives it his all trying to become a vampire. Guillermo aims to navigate the world on his own, but his vampire friends never leave a chance to interfere in his plans and he ends up struggling to become self-reliant.
However, now that the show is ending, fans will finally see a conclusion for Guillermo as he embraces his identity. As for the other characters like Colin and Laszlo, actor Mark Proksch described them as an "odd couple" who always work out well, creating a humorous environment.
Proksch also talked about his favorite moments while filming the horror comedy, especially playing the teenage Colin. His character can regenerate after every hundred years, and that's the reason why Colin cannot recall Laszlo raising him.
While Colin and Laszlo seem to be an odd couple, the other two vampires Nandor and Nadia also have problems of their own. Known as Nandor the Relentless, the Persian vampire is often troubled by the modern world and Nadja is at odds with others most of the time.
The first three episodes of What We Do in the Shadows Season 6 have already aired, with the fourth arriving on October 27, 2024. The show has a total of 11 episodes, and the exact date of the finale remains unknown.
