Created by David DiGilio, The Terminal List is an action thriller show based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Jack Carr. Starring Chris Pratt, Constance Wu, Riley Keough, and others, the show is about Lieutenant Commander James Reece (Pratt), who is a US Navy SEAL.

In the show, Reece’s platoon is ambushed while on a covert mission, and Reece gets disillusioned as he comes back home and has conflicting memories about the event. As the show progresses, Reece discovers a larger conspiracy against him, which could endanger his and his family’s lives.

The show has one season, and it was released on Amazon Prime Video on July 1, 2022. The show even has a spinoff and is noted for its gory action scenes. Therefore, there is one scene in the show that viewers especially remember. It is the moment when Reece kills the man hired to kill his family, and according to an interview with Collider, Pratt reveals that the axe scene was about to be axed.

At the end of the fourth episode, Reece finds the Mexican hitmen who were responsible for killing his wife and daughter. Reece captures El Navajas, who was hired to kill, and Reece immediately chains him and hangs him up. Ultimately, Reece carves through the man’s guts, and the assassin dies a horrific death as his innards spill on the floor. The graphic and intense scene has left a mark, and Pratt comments that, "Yeah, the studio didn't want us to do it, but we did it, and then it turned out to be the best part.”

Pratt mentions that this is the scene that fans of the show talk about the most, and it is well-mentioned that former members of the armed forces liked the show for its brutal authenticity. While the scene is gory, it does reveal the emotional state of Reece and how bereaved he is over his family’s death. Further, Pratt notes that the authenticity of the show makes the series “refreshing” at a time when there are dozens of action thrillers on the online platform.

The show has remained faithful to the novel by Carr, and The Terminal List made sure that it stuck with the axe-gut sequence and remained unabashed about telling the story of a revenge thriller.
