"So, we have a really important moment, for not only Peacemaker, but the entire DCU, in that Rick Flag, the head of ARGUS, strikes a deal basically with Lex Luthor."
More on this in our story.
Peacemaker Season 2: James Gunn's comments on Nicholas Hoult's crucial role in the series
Episode 6 of Peacemaker Season 2 premiered on September 25, 2025. In the episode, Rick Flag Sr., played by Frank Grillo, visits Belle Reve and meets Hoult's character Luthor. He asks him to help him find Chris/Peacemaker's dimensional portal. Striking a deal with the criminal, he promises to search for the portal in exchange for a shift from Belle Reve to Van Kull prison, where he won't find metahumans.
According to Gunn, the moment necessitates great importance for the future of two DCU supervillains, who strike a deal to work together, posing further danger for John Cena's Peacemaker. In the Deadline interview, he added:
"[Flag] teamed up with Lex Luthor, which is scary, a man with such power as Flag. He’s got an agenda, it’s scary for our boy Peacemaker."
Therefore, Flag and Luthor coming together against Chris will surely bring bigger problems for him since Gunn has already shared that Flag has an "agenda". With only two episodes left in Peacemaker Season 2, this new development will bring more intriguing turns of events in the plotline.
Peacemaker Season 2: James Gunn talks about Nicholas Hoult's performance in the superhero series
Other than talking about the crucial role Hoult's character Luthor plays in Peacemaker Season 2, James Gunn also shared how the actor's performance was different in the series in comparison to the Superman film, even though the scene was filmed during the filming of the superhero movie. In the Deadline interview, he shared:
"This was one of the first scenes we shot. I think we shot it in the middle of Superman. It was cool, it was weird because tonally, it instantly felt different from Superman, which is so big and brash. And this show is so grounded and gritty. And then also hearing Nick curse."
He further added:
"I felt like even Nick’s performance was different."
After the premiere episode of Season 2, several fans speculated that Lex Luthor would definitely appear in the series due to Belle Reve being mentioned in the episode. Therefore, seeing Hoult appear in a crucial role, such as Luthor in the latest episode, which is important for the series as well as the DCU, has left the fans excited and anticipating more.
Besides John Cena, Season 2 also stars Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Robert Patrick, and Freddie Stroma, among several others.
