After witnessing Mother's Milk (MM) in Prime Video's The Boys, many fans and viewers started wondering if the actor had been recast. Laz Alonso has played the character since the first season and is known for his bulky appearance.

However, in The Boys Season 4, Mother's Milk looked entirely different and didn't even have a beard. Fans initially thought that the actor had changed until Alonso took to his Instagram and shared that he decided to lose weight before and while filming The Boys Season 4.

His decision was not only drawn after excessive consumption of burgers and pizza, but he also wanted to align Mother's Milk with the comic book. As seen in the fifth season, MM is stressed after becoming the leader of The Boys and is expected to carry out big responsibilities.

The actor also posted pictures of Mother's Milk in the comic book and captioned the post:

"To the beard lovers, MM didn’t always have a beard, as you see here in the source material. He was a Marine, clean shaven. Now that he reports to the head of the CIA and the White House as leader of The Boys, he’s dressing the part..."

The actor explained that Mother's Milk's changed physical appearance is the result of new challenges and the weight of becoming a commanding officer. Even in the comics, MM is not always flaunting his bulky appearance and beard but is also seen as clean-shaven and more toned.

How much weight did Laz Alonso lose after The Boys Season 3?

Laz Alonso's dramatic weight loss intrigued many fans, who were curious to know how much weight the actor lost while filming The Boys Season 3.

In an interview with Men's Health, Alonso explained that he gained excessive weight during The Boys Season 3 to align with the character fans have seen in the comic books. He stated:

"Uber Eating every day, eating a lot of pizza, eating a lot of burgers. I discovered Toronto's best pizzas and burgers. I put on close to 40lbs. It didn't hit me until I saw the promotional posters for season 3..."

Laz Alonso mentioned that he had gained too much weight, and his face in The Boys' Season 3 promotional picture looked quite different, hence the decision to lose weight and adopt healthy eating habits. Alonso added:

"It wasn't healthy. Before season 4 came around, I wanted to do something real different... I went into an extreme calorie reduction. I shaved because now he reports directly to the White House."

Laz Alonso lost around 40 lbs to play Mother's Milk in The Boys's Season 4. The transformation helped him bring authenticity to the character in the fan-adored series.

Viewers could also see MM's personal evolution through his changed physical appearance in season 4, as series creator Eric Kripke also told Alonso that Mother's Milk "is gonna go through a big transition" for the next chapter.

In The Boys Season 4, Mother's Milk went through a big transition not only in his physical appearance but also in his profession. He replaced Butcher and became the commanding officer of The Boys.

MM was tasked to guide his teammates in facing off against the corrupt supervisors and Vaught International while handling interpersonal dynamics in his group.

Mother's Milk also formed a close bond with Hughie by mentoring him. He often found himself at odds with Billy Butcher as they both had different views about leadership and justice in their universe full of corruption and evil activities.

Alonso's character reflected the emotional weight he was carrying while fulfilling his responsibilities. The Boys Season 5 confirmed bringing back the show's main character.
