The reason is that High Potential Season 2 has gone on a winter break. Episode 7 marked the mid-season finale for the series, and Episode 8 will be released on January 6, 2026, marking the winter premiere.

The reason behind the extended break of High Potential Season 2

Winter breaks are common for network dramas. Every series that runs for a full season on television airs a fall finale and goes on a hiatus for a few weeks. The reason is that during the holiday season, television viewership decreases as people get busy with celebrations and prefer to watch festive specials instead of traditional TV shows.

The break also gives the cast and crew an opportunity to rest. Meanwhile, the writers sometimes utilize the time to rework the storyline and tweak plot points based on the feedback received from the audience. Thus, from ABC to NBC, almost all networks have mid-season breaks in their shows.

Now the question arises: Why is High Potential Season 2 off for two months, while most shows only take a hiatus of a few weeks? Well, the second season of the crime drama had an early premiere on ABC. Season 2 Episode 1 premiered on September 16, 2025, while most other network shows debuted in October this year.

Thus, High Potential Season 2 had an advanced release schedule when compared to other shows. That is why it has already aired its fall finale on October 28, 2025. When will High Potential Season 2 return?

The show will return on January 6, 2026, with the release of Season 2 Episode 8. ABC has not yet confirmed the title or logline of the upcoming episode. It needs to be noted that the show will switch to a new time slot after its winter premiere.

While the season has been aired on Tuesdays at 10 PM so far, it will be broadcast on Tuesdays at 9 PM from January 6, 2026. The 10 PM slot will be taken by The Rookie season 8.

At the end of Season 2 Episode 7, Megan was stuck with art recovery expert Rhys Eastman, who is supposedly a thief and murderer. As per a report by TV Line, the winter premiere will begin with a time jump and will not directly follow up on Morgan and Rhys’ hotel scene.
