While it is not unusual for One Chicago shows to go on a break, fans were not expecting a hiatus in April. The shows had already taken a scheduled break in March, with no new episodes of the One Chicago shows airing on March 12, 2025.
However, something similar awaits the fans in April. A report in Coming Soon confirms that there will be no new episodes in the One Chicago-verse next week, and new episodes will air again only from April 16, 2025.
No official reason has been announced by NBC for the break, but then the One Chicago shows have previously gone on similar breaks, so the development is not very surprising. There are speculations that the break is happening due to creative reasons, so that the One Chicago team gets more time to present upcoming episodes better.
Fans have to wait a whole week for new episodes of Chicago Fire, PD and Med
As it happened in March 2025, in the coming week of April, too, there will be no fresh episode of the One Chicago shows. It has been confirmed that the shows are going on a week-long break. In the past, scheduled breaks were often an outcome of the writers’ strike that affected production.
However, the April break is not a scheduled one, as it was not announced previously. The break has now been confirmed, but the reason behind it remains unclear since no official update has been provided by NBC regarding the same. While the after-effects of the writers’ strike could also be a reason for the upcoming gap, it cannot be said so with certainty.
Another speculated reason for the break is perhaps the makers and editors of the show need more time to better the upcoming episode. While, technical teams taking a few more days for a particular creative process is nothing new in the world of entertainment, there is, however, no official confirmation from NBC if this is the case with One Chicago shows in April.
While new episodes will not air in the coming week, there will be reruns of previous episodes of the One Chicago shows. The time slots remain the same.
The week-long wait will be worth it for fans, especially because one of the One Chicago shows — Chicago Fire — brings back the beloved character of Chief Boden in Episode 18. Talking about the episode, showrunner Andrea Newman had previously mentioned, according to TV Line:
“We’re so excited to have our beloved Chief Boden back, and the episode, titled ‘Post-Mortem,’ is a thrill ride unlike any we’ve done before. Told with flashbacks and unique POVs, Chief Boden leads our team on a search to discover the how, who, and why of a fierce firefight that ended in disaster.”
The wee's break is obviously difficult for the fans, but they certainly have something exciting in store ahead.
Chicago Fire streams on Peacock.
