The iconic Robert De Niro is making his small-screen debut with none other than streaming giant Netflix as he will be leading a political thriller named Zero Day, that is set to premiere on February 20, 2025, on Netflix.
Robert De Niro plays the role of George Mullen, a retired American President who is called back to duty to lead a “Zero Day Commission” to investigate a cyber attack that happened globally and caused mass hysteria and chaos. While talking to Netflix Tudum, Eric Newman, co-creator of Zero Day, mentioned,
“Zero Day is about the aftermath of a devastating cyberattack that kills thousands of people and threatens to push a nation already on the precipice over the edge.”
Noah Oppenheim, also the co-creator, added,
“The show also looks at the cost of power for those who are asked to take on these enormous challenges — what it means for them personally, and what it means for their families.”
Netflix has revealed nine first look images from Zero Day. The images reveal that the Netflix show is going to have a stellar cast along with Robert De Niro. Let us now look at what these first images reveal about the upcoming show.
What do the first look images of Zero Day reveal?
The first look images from Zero Day show an ensemble cast including Lizzy Caplan (Alexandra Mullen), Joan Allen (Sheila Mullen), Jesse Plemons (Roger Carlson), Connie Britton (Valerie Whitesell), Dan Stevens (Evan Green), Bill Camp, Angela Bassett (President Evelyn Mitchell), Clark Gregg, Matthew Modine, Gaby Hoffmann, McKinley Belcher III (Carl Otieno), Mozhan Navabi (Melissa Kornblau), and Mark Ivanir.
These images from Zero Day make it evident that the upcoming show is a commentary and reflection of the present American political climate. As Robert De Niro’s ex-President Mullen is entrusted with leading a task force to deal with a cyber attack and threats of making a scapegoat out of Russia, it is too difficult to not notice the obvious similarities between these images and the current political situation in the United States. Moreover, De Niro’s character is shown to be going through cognitive decline.
Who all are involved with Zero Day?
The creative team behind Zero Day includes writers Noah Oppenheim and Eric Newman as co-creators. Lesli Linka Glatter and Michael S. Schmidt, who is a New York Times writer, is directing all the six episodes of this limited series.
Besides making his debut as an actor on TV, Robert De Niro also serves as the executive producer of Zero Day. Other executive producers are Jonathan Glickman, Oppenheim, Newman, Schmidt, and Linka Glatter.
