The twist in Grotesquerie episode 7 has fans and viewers left stunned as they learn about Lois's coma-induced reality. With Ryan Murphy as the creator of the horror crime drama, how can we not expect a jaw-dropping twist in the story? Episode 7 revealed that all that has happened so far, was nothing but a dream.
Lois has been in a coma the whole time until episode 7, and the characters we see like Sister Megan Duval, Father Charlie, and her family members, are actually the different versions of them. This might be confusing to some, but if you closely followed the story, this was the best part of Murphy's show.
While she viewed Sister Megan as a nun in her nightmare, she's working as her colleague Detective Megan Duval in reality. Similarly, Father Charlie is a doctor who's responsible for keeping Lois alive, and her daughter Merritt is a smart cancer researcher.
Then who is the killer? It was believed that Sister Megan Duval and Father Charlie were the serial killer duo, but that was in Lois's nightmare. This means that the killer hasn't been identified, and the murders have started in reality.
Who might be the killer in Ryan Murphy's Grotesquerie?
The spooky season is soon ending and so is the latest horror crime drama Grotesquerie. Episodes 8 and 9 arrived on October 23, and further explained the deep hidden meaning behind Lois's nightmare.
The killer(s) in Grotesquerie is yet to be revealed, and considering the nine episodes that have come out, it could be anyone among Lois, Megan, Dr. Charlie Mayhew or someone fans wouldn't have expected. While episode 7 hints that Lois is the killer, her nightmare points at Dr. Charlie.
Lois has often claimed that the killer has deep knowledge about the human body, as the murders are quite detailed. In her dream, Father Charlie was at a lunch table and expressed his desire to be a surgeon instead of a priest. These instances hint that Father Charlie, who's a surgeon in reality might be involved and is likely Grotesquerie, the killer.
Not only this but his cowboy boots in Lois's nightmare match with reality, suggesting that Dr. Charlie has some connection to the serial killer. Furthermore, episodes 8 and 9 expand on the meaning behind the nightmare, as Lois has a guide named Santino Fontana, who breaks down the meaning for her.
What happened in Grotesquerie episode 8 & 9: Exploring Lois's nightmare
After a terrifying nightmare in her coma, Lois finally wakes up in Grotesquerie. In episodes 8 & 9, viewers get to learn why she viewed Megan as a nun and Dr. Mayhew as a priest. In reality, Lois believes that Megan is a self-righteous millennial who knows everything and has deep knowledge.
She also learns that Megan isn't in a healthy relationship and tells her to escape before it's too late. She also dreamt about her husband in a coma and her daughter dealing with weight gain issues. This hints at Lois's family problems in real life.
Now that she's taking therapy from Santino Fontana, the dream specialist is helping her cope with the trauma. Not only this, but the specialist suggested that Lois might be a prophet and even compared her with Moses as she couldn't relate the Burnside family massacre to any real-life case.
Later, she arrived at a crime scene which closely followed her nightmare. The pot featured at the beginning of Grotesquerie was also there, and it's hard to say if it was a baby or a bunny inside it. Viewers will likely find it in the finale of the series.
Lois then starts thinking someone has stolen her therapy notes and meets Megan at a motel from her dream. Their conversation is disrupted by Megan's abusive boyfriend Justin who tries to trouble them. Lois stepped into action and killed Justin out of self-defense.
