Who is Eugene from The Last of Us Season 2? All details revealed 

The Last of Us Season 2 has arrived, and we are going to be introduced to a new character called Eugene. Fans who have played the game might find this name familiar, as he was part of The Last of Us game.

The Last of Us Season 2 takes a jump of about five years after the events of season 1. Ellie has grown up and matured as an individual, but that has also created issues between her and Joel. The second season follows their life in the Jackson community and the threats they have to face soon.

We do not exactly see Eugene in the first episode of The Last of Us Season 2. But we hear about him. The episode introduces us to Gail, played by Catherine O'Hara. She is a therapist in the Jackson community. Gail is a new character, made specifically for the show, and was not in the games. Gail is treating Joel and says that he had killed her husband, Eugene.

Who is Eugene in The Last of Us Season 2?

Eugene Linden was first mentioned in The Last of Us Part II. In the games, He lived in the Jackson community and worked as a patrolman. Besides that, he was a part of the Fireflies and worked with Joel's brother, Tommy Miller. He also developed a close bond with Dina and died due to a stroke when he was seventy-three years old.

However, in The Last of Us Season 2, Eugene's wife, Gail, says that he was killed by Joel. She says Joel:

“had no choice.”

Gail continues:

“I know I should forgive you. But I tried, and I can't. Because of how you did it.”

The show has made a few differences in the story when adapting it from the game, and this is probably one of them. Eugene is going to die differently in the show, and we will most likely get to see an episode specifically about him this season.

While we have not seen Eugene in the first episode, he was seen in The Last of Us Season 2 trailer. Eugene is seen as an old man in glasses and unarmed. Joel is seen to be pointing a gun at Eugene's head when he is standing facing the other way, and not towards Joel.

Showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin confirmed the man to be Eugene when they spoke with Variety about the character. Druckmann spoke more on Eugene, saying:

“I get excited when I see these opportunities. I’m like, ‘Oh, I don’t know Eugene that well!’ The story we told [in the game] was somewhat superficial. The way this character comes in really gets to the heart of Joel and Ellie and their relationship.”

This hinted at a possible episode based solely on Eugene's story. People hardly got to know anything about Eugene in the games, but the show is set to shed light on the character. While not much is known about the episode, Catherine O'Hara spoke about it with Entertainment Weekly, saying:

“I've never had to cry so much for so many takes. It was killer.”

Joe Pantoliano, known for his performance on The Sopranos, The Matrix, and Bad Boys, is going to be playing Eugene in The Last of Us Season 2.
