Developed by Clyde Phillips, Dexter: Resurrection, is a crime drama series that is a sequel to Dexter: New Blood and the original Dexter. The show features Michael C. Hall as the titular Dexter Morgan and also features Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, and others.

The original Dexter focused on the titular character who was associated with the Miami Petro Police Department but had a lust for blood and therefore, used to hunt and kill murderers who had escaped the law.

Dexter: Resurrection premiered on July 11, 2025 on Paramount+ Premium. In the show, Dexter Morgan has recovered from his gunshot wound and traces his son Harrison to New York City. The show also features captain Angel Batista, who was a former part of the Miami Metro Homicide Unit and a colleague of Dexter.

Throughout Dexter: Resurrection, The New York Ripper has loomed over the show as a menacing presence who used a weapon like a crowbar to torture his victims. However, his identity remained unknown until the finale of the show. Eventually, it is revealed that Don Framt is the New York Ripper and an unseen antagonist of the show. Could he be someone we've already seen in the show? Could he be a distraction to a more sinister plot? We don't know yet!

Here’s what happened in the Season 1 finale of the show leading to the reveal of the Ripper.

The show revealed the New York Ripper's identity via Leon Prater's vault and since Prater was in possession of the Ripper's murder weapon, there is a chance that he knew the Ripper on a personal level.

Additionally, Prater also had records of everyone who attended his dinner parties. It isn’t certain that the Ripper attended Prater’s dinner parties. He doesn’t appear in those scenes, nor is he shown as part of the serial killer club. But it’s possible he may have attended in the past. There’s no evidence of it on the show, so we can’t say for sure.

Dexter: Resurrection never introduced Don Framt right up until Dexter found his file in Prater's vault. There have been hints of his presence on the show, but fans are yet to see him in person. This also means his story will take center stage in Season 2, should it be greenlit.

Leon Prater wakes up bound in cellophane and begging Dexter to spare his life. But Dexter shows no mercy. He kills him, dismembers the body, and sets off the alarm before leaving. As the cops at the gala rush upstairs, the story shifts to the New York Ripper.

Wallace and Oliva lead the investigation and find everything that the season’s main antagonist had been hiding for so long. But the most awaited reveal is that of the New York Ripper. The internet has been flooded with theories about the killer since the beginning of the series, but the finale finally gives us answers.

Wallace and Oliva find a bloodied sewer grate hook. It’s the New York Ripper’s weapon. Prater’s files reveal that the New York Ripper is Mr. Don Framt. This mystery has run throughout the series, and although we never meet the killer, the repeated mention of his name suggests its importance. It’s possible that Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection will shed more light on the case.

Although he never makes a physical appearance, the revelation of the Ripper's name comes as a shock to Wallace and Olivia. Even if he is no longer an active killer, his character will likely serve as an important link moving into the next season.

Dexter: Resurrection - The finale reveals it all

In the finale of Dexter: Resurrection, Prater shoots Angel. Dexter is left feeling helpless as he’s unable to save him. Along with his henchman Charley, Prater decides to lock Dexter up in a vault for three days, so that he ends up dying of thirst and hunger.

In the vault, Dexter has a hallucination about his dead brother, Brian Moser. However, everything is not lost as Angel’s phone still has some power left. He therefore uses it to call his son Harrison for help.

Meanwhile, Dexter finds a cabinet filled with folders of serial killers and hopes to find some clue to the door code. Harrison video calls Dexter to find his way to his father and rescue him. But luck isn’t on his side. He is caught by Charley and held at gunpoint.

Dexter uses this moment to tell Charley over the phone call that Prater has kept a file on her dirty work as well and if she lets Harrison go, he will destroy the evidence. Otherwise, he would AirDrop the photos to the police present in the gala.

Charley lets Harrison go but not without threatening Dexter. Soon, she tells Prater that she’s disappearing but that doesn’t mean he'll stop taking care of her mother’s medical expenses.

Angel’s phone is now dead but Dexter is able to guess the code and tell Harrison. The father and son are finally reunited and they split up to avoid getting caught.

But Prater spots Harrison and decides to kill him in front of his father. Dexter proposes an alternative. He can kill the Bay Harbour Butcher instead and let Harrison live a life like theirs. While Prater is distracted, Harrison injects him with a sedative syringe supplied by Dexter earlier. This knocks Leon Prater unconscious.
