The Last of Us is an American post-apocalyptic drama series. Inspired by the action-adventure video game franchise of the same name, the first season is based on the first game. Viewers can expect the second season to be based on The Last of Us Part II. The series is set two decades into the outbreak of a pandemic that was set off by a widespread fungal infection called the cordyceps brain infection. As more people get infected, they become creatures similar to violent zombies.
The plot of The Last of Us Season 1 is about a smuggler named Joel who, along with his partner in crime, Tess, is asked to escort an immune teenager named Ellie safely. Joel and Tess are tasked with smuggling her to Massachusetts, where the fireflies are trying to find a cure. Upon reaching Massachusetts, Joel, Tess, and Ellie realize that the fireflies are nowhere to be found.
The second season will explore Abby's character and be set five years after the previous season. Abby, a seasoned soldier with a rigid outlook, is out to get Joel and Ellie. She seeks to avenge the harm Joel and Ellie caused to her loved ones. The second season of The Last of Us is expected to be released by 2025. The series cast features Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, and Anna Torv as Tess.

Who is Abby in The Last of Us?
In The Last of Us season 2, audiences can expect to be introduced to a new character, Abby Anderson. According to the official HBO description,
"(Abby) a skilled soldier, whose black-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved"
Originally a playable character from the game, Abby is shown in the series as somebody who sees Joel and Ellie as the bad guys. Abby is a trained fighter determined to seek revenge on Joel for killing her father.
After grieving her father's death and following the termination of Fireflies, Abby joins the Washington Liberation Front. Over the next few years, she masters her skills as a fighter.
Why is the controversy behind Abby?
Controversy surrounds Abby's character as she kills Joel. Part II of HBO's The Last of Us begins five years after the events of the first part with Ellie and Joel living in Jackson. Although estranged, they have settled into their lives in the town.
The players can also control another character, Abby, seeking revenge for her father's death. As it turns out, Joel is the man Abby is looking for, and she brutally murders Joel in front of Ellie, Tommy, and the player.
Midway through the game, our perspective shifts from Ellie's to Abby's. The players spend half the game as Ellie in Seattle planning Joel's revenge and, around the same time, with Abby getting to know her motivations and life story.
We learn that, similarly to Ellie, Abby is also stuck in a cycle of violence and death. The fans were angered over Joel's death, a character they spent much time on in the first part.
The controversy behind Abby was also due to fans' unhappiness that they had to play a character who killed Joel. This led to the fans giving the actress who played Abby in the series an extreme amount of hate, even resulting in death threats being made to the actress.
Who plays Abby in The Last of Us Season 2?
Kaitlyn Dever plays Abby Anderson in season two of The Last of Us, an experienced soldier who targets Joel and Ellie. She is an American actress known for roles in Justified, Dopesick, Last Man Standing, Unbelievable, and Ticket to Paradise.
She is also known for her supporting roles in Detroit, Short Term 12, Dear Evan Hansen, Beautiful Boy, Rosaline, No one will save you, and Booksmart. Dever has also been a voice actress and a musician.
The Last of Us season 1 is available on Max and Hulu.
