The latest episode of NBC’s Law and Order Season 24 saw Mike Vogel in the role of a crooked cop, who has turned into a killer. The eighth episode of the season, titled Bad Apple focused on a narcotics officer who was shot in the back and Brady has to come back to her old precinct to investigate the case.

However, when she realizes that the suspect’s story is not adding up, she asks for help from Riley and Shaw to get to the bottom of the truth. Mike Vogel appeared as a guest star in this episode and it is not surprising if the viewers found him familiar as the star has to his credit a diverse range of projects in both television and film.

In a career spanning over almost two decades, Vogel has played different roles ranging from a suave investment banker to a soccer coach and a former U.S. Special Forces operator.

What projects has Mike Vogel been associated with?

Vogel had previously appeared in popular shows like Under the Dome and Bates Motel. He also featured as a lead in The Brave, an NBC military drama. He has also appeared in a number of films, including The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Poseidon, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Blue Valentine, Cloverfield, The Help etc.

In a 2015 Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise story, Mike Vogel mentioned that though he initially joined the plumbing business of his family, his good looks and acting skills soon got him noticed in both Hollywood and runway. He said,

“I started modeling initially and started training and within six months I booked Grounded for Life, at 21. It was my first television series.”

Grounded for Life was a family centric sit-com that came out in 2001. Vogel was a recurring cast member of the show, playing the character of Dean Piramatti. The show also featured actors like Megyn Price, Donal Logue, Kevin Corrigan, and Lynsey Bartilson.

After starring in this show, Vogel got into films in 2003 and was cast as Eric, a soccer coach in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. In 2011, he starred in the critically acclaimed film The Help where he played the role of Johnny Foote, the wealthy and sweet spouse of Celia Foote (Jessica Chastain). The film explored themes of racial relations in the 1960s Mississippi.

Two years after this, in 2013, Vogel starred as Deputy Zack Shelby in Bates Motel, where his character was a handsome deputy who hid his own criminal activities. The show also starred Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore.

Vogel also starred for three seasons in Under the Dome, where he played the role of Dale “Barbie” Barbara, a former Special Forces operator. The show concluded in 2015 and Vogel’s next project was The Brave, an action drama on NBC that followed a group of elite and undercover soldiers.

Regarding his illustrious career, Vogel told the Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise

“I come home more tired after an emotional day of acting than I’ve ever had after anything physical that I’ve ever done. I find it to be a lot of hard work. And I love hard work, so for me it’s enjoyable.”

What role does Mike Vogel play in Law and Order Season 24?

In Law and Order Season 24 Episode 8, titled Bad Apple, Vogel plays the role of Miles Brandt, a highly decorated narcotics officer. Miles is posted at Lt. Jessica Brady’s former precinct.

Investigation started when Brandt’s partner was found dead in a park with a gunshot on his back. While Brandt and his team start working to track the killer down, Brady starts to suspect Brandt himself as he has a reputation for taking drug money.

Though a carefully staged sting operation exposed Brandt, his precinct officials as well as top officers were not ready to testify against him as that would also jeopardize their career. However, Brady finally decided to speak up against Brandt and bring to light his habit of taking drug money and his partner’s opposition for the same.

With Brady’s help, Brandt was convicted of murdering his partner and was jailed. Though she did the right thing, Brady’s decision put her in a tough position at her former precinct as others did not like the way she dealt with Brandt.
