Netflix's recently released medical drama Pulse is adored by many for providing a new twist to the hospital-based genre. The show is not merely about saving lives in the ER, but it also explores the emotional turmoil, politics and personal demons of medical personnel.

The doctors work in a high-pressure Miami trauma center where one is supposed to give their all while saving lives. What makes Pulse an even more compelling drama is that all these medical emergencies occur while a threatening hurricane is just about to land.

So, they are not only racing to save lives, but also have to do so before the hurricane strikes. The impending catastrophe also compels the hospital into lockdown, leading to situations that often prove to be urgent and dramatic.

The co-showrunner of Pulse shed light on making this unique series and said:

"We wanted to make a structure that was relatable. We live in a world where people’s principal community is their job... For people who live and who work in the medical world, their job is all-consuming."

At the heart of the medical series is Dr. Danielle “Danny” Simms, who serves as a third-year resident at the hospital. She unexpectedly finds managing huge responsibilities after her ex-partner Dr. Xander Phillips gets suspended.

As for other characters, Danny is surrounded by some of her best colleagues like her closest friend Sam Elijah, Dr. Natalie Cruz who's known for being politically aware and serves as the department head, the young and charming surgical resident Tom Cole from Britaian, and a few more.

Since the hospital plays the most important part in the show, many viewers might wonder about the filming locations. While Pulse is set in Miami, parts of the media drama were shot elsewhere.

While Pulse takes viewers deep into the chaotic and emotionally charged world of a Miami trauma center, many fans might wonder: Was it actually filmed in Miami? With its intense ER scenes, looming hurricane backdrop, and gritty hospital corridors, the show looks incredibly realistic.

Like many TV dramas, Pulse wasn’t filmed entirely where it’s set. While the story unfolds in the heart of Miami’s high-pressure medical world, the series blends real Miami locations with cleverly recreated hospital interiors shot miles away in Albuquerque.

Here’s a look at how the show’s creators brought its intense, storm-fueled drama to life across two very different cities:

1) Miami, Florida was the primary filming spot

One of the major shooting locations is Miami, as the production crew filmed the Netflix medical drama in Miami-Dade County. The ocean scenery and beach backdrops contributed to the show's dramatic storyline.

Then there are the actual locations. Jackson Memorial Hospital, well known for its helipad on the roof was used to create realism in emergency scenes. And because it's Miami, something with a beach must be included and for this show, Sunny Isles Beach was used to feature the beachside lifestyle. Other series filmed at this location include CSI: Miami, Burn Notice and more.

2) Albuquerque, New Mexico used for interiors

Apart from Miami-Dade County, the productuon team also shot some of the indoor scenes in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The reason? This locations wasn't just cost-effective but allowed the crew to recreate hospital interiors without affecting real medical centers.

Since the filming took place last year, over 200 local crew members and 30 background actors contributed to the Albuquerque shoot. If you're a fan of Bryan Cranston, then know that his acclaimed TV series Breaking Bad, and its prequel Better Call Saul, were both filmed at this location.

3) A fictional hospital with real locations

Netflix's Pulse revolves around the Maguire Medical Center, which is a fictional hospital. However, parts of the medical drama seemed to have captured at an actual building located near the Miami River Condos in Downtown Miami.

As mentioned earlier, the makers didn't just randommy picked Miami as the most imporatant location. The city is know for being lively and it's diverse atmopshere makes it an ideal place to film TV series and films.
