Iain Armitage, known for playing a younger Sheldon Cooper in Young Sheldon, is pursuing other interests after The Big Bang Theory spin-off came to an end in May 2024. Iain Armitage is taking some time off, doing auditions, watching theatrical productions, and taking flying lessons.

However, this was not the actor's first big role. Before Young Sheldon, Iain Armitage played the role of Ziggy in HBO's Big Little Lies. What is Iain Armitage doing after Young Sheldon?

The last episode of Young Sheldon aired on May 16, 2024. Iain had played the role of Sheldon Cooper, a young genius growing up in Medford, Texas. Sheldon grows up with his twin sister, Missy, older brother George Jr., his Memawa, and his parents, George and Mary. The show follows Sheldon's life growing up as he falls in love with science and technology in a place where he feels no one understands him.

Young Sheldon ran for seven seasons, and Iain bid a bittersweet goodbye to the show. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight in 2024, Iain said:

“I don't think you can wrap up a seven-year experience that has been as wonderful as this."

"Every single person that works here — every cast member, every crew member — works so hard … They're so funny and they really feel like family."

Now that the show is over, there is no confirmation of Iain starting a new project. However, there have been rumors of a third season of Big Little Lies being in the works, and Iain could reprise his role as Ziggy. Reese Witherspoon, who played Madeline Mackenzie, told E!:

“We're in waiting for Liane Moriarty. She's going to be turning in something very soon. We're back to the original author and we're going to go back to the original characters."

As of now, Iain is taking flying lessons according to his conversation with PEOPLE, where he said:

“I just got my pilot's license, or my student pilot's license. I hopefully will get my private [pilot’s license] when I'm 17. And I've been having a bunch of fun flying while I'm here in L.A."

When asked about work, he said:

“I'm definitely doing auditions and stuff."

Iain is no longer working on Young Sheldon since the show ended, but he has been in touch with his cast members. Recently, he met Ed Begley Jr. and shared on his Instagram on March 2025:

"Thank goodness I got to see @ed_begley_jr and his beautiful daughter, Hayden. The days I got to spend on the set of Young Sheldon working with Ed and Wally Shawn were some of my very favorite days..."

Armitage also ran into Zoe Perry, who played his mother, Mary Cooper, on Young Sheldon, when they were invited to the White House in December 2024.

Iain is also watching theatrical performances. He recently watched Our Town on Broadway starring Jim Parsons in January 2025. Parson played Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory and had been the narrator for Young Sheldon. The two Sheldons reunited after Parsons' performance as shared by Iain on his Instagram post.

Armitage also reunited with his other TV mom, Shailene Woodley, when he went to watch her performance on Broadway's Cult of Love. He made a post appreciating her and her performance, and ended the post by saying:

"The play is about a family gathering on Christmas with all their tension, trauma, love, history and talent on full display and I loved it. I hope Shailene keeps coming back to theatre because it makes me so happy to see her up there and I hope she knows how proud I am to be her fake son!"
