Mayfair Witches, created by Michelle Ashford and Esta Spalding, is a television series based on the Immortal Universe, a shared universe created by Anne Rice's novels. It is the second series after Interview with the Vampire (2002). The show's first season premiered on AMC on January 8, 2023.

The series has had many surprising twists and turns, but one of the most startling revelations is about the Mayfair family's supernatural heritage. Lasher and AMC's Mayfair Witches revealed a prophecy central to the story involving the 13th Mayfair Witch and Lasher's motives.

In season 1 of the show, Rowan, played by Alexandra Daddario, experiences a tumultuous series of events. What initially begins as a journey to find the truth about herself takes a dramatic turn in episode 3 when an old prophecy about Lasher and the Mayfair family is revealed, completely changing the story's direction.

The prophecy puts Rowan at the center - she's the 13th witch. This explains Lasher's fervent efforts to free her, as she is crucial to his plans.

What happens in the end episode of Mayfair Witches?

Episode 8 of season 1, "What Rough Beast," begins with Rowan Mayfair asking Lasher to get rid of Keith, which Lasher does by burning him alive in a wooden cabin. Lasher takes over Rowan's mind and transports her to Suzanne's house. Rowan has a dream in which she's confused by the powers Lasher gives her but only wants more.

Eventually, she accepts Lasher as her lover, and they get intimate in her dream. Lasher tells her she is part of an ancient prophecy before he meets Suzanne, the first Mayfair witch. According to the prophecy, Rowan, the 13th Mayfair witch, is some doorway.

Rowan's pregnancy progresses rapidly as part of the prophecy. The thirteenth witch serves as a doorway, and Lasher will be reborn through Rowan's child at the witching hour. The episode ends with Rowan giving birth and accepting the power her child offers. She refuses to let Cortland take the child and the power for himself and also refuses Ciprien's attempt to take the child for the Talamasca.

In one of her interviews, Esta Spalding clarified why the prophecy matters and how it's linked to the upcoming season of Mayfair Witches.

“In the pilot, Rowan says, “if I had power, things would be different.” And it takes her the whole season to choose to have all of the power she can possibly have, both destructive and creative, but she takes it at that end of that finale. I feel like the exciting thing in the second season and beyond is how will she use this power now?”

If you still haven't watched Mayfair Witches, you can do so by streaming season 1 of the series, which is now available on AMC and AMC+.
