Peacock’s Based on a True Story features a unique mix of crime and comedy. The dark comedy thriller series premiered in June 2023 and was loved by viewers and critics for its unprecedented take on true-crime podcasts.
The show follows a couple, Ava and Nathan, who come across a serial killer called the West Side Ripper, aka Matt. But instead of reporting him to the police, the couple starts a true-crime podcast with him, on the condition that he stops killing people.
The show is all set to return with its second season on November 21, 2024, and fans cannot help but wonder how the story of Ava, Nathan, and Matt will continue. Here is all about the plot of Based On A True Story season 2.
Based On A True Story season 2 will draw Ava back into the true-crime world
Based on a True Story season 2 will pick up three months after the wild events of the season 1 finale. Ava and Nathan Bartlett will be adjusting to life as new parents while trying to leave their chaotic past with the West Side Ripper behind.
Ava will focus on raising the baby and return to her job as a real estate agent, trying not to focus on the crime world. Meanwhile, Nathan will get back to coaching tennis to bring normalcy to his life. However, their peace won’t last long.
The official logline for the new season reads,
“Season two finds new parents Ava and Nathan Bartlett three months into parenthood. Focused on taking care of her family, Ava is determined to resist her true-crime obsession and return to work as a real estate agent while Nathan trains private tennis clients.”
“But a series of new murders pulls her back in – is Matt behind the slayings? Is Tory, now entangled in a relationship with Matt, in danger? For a while, life is good.”
“Ava’s TikTok habit and her new friend Drew provides a welcome distraction, and Nathan’s all in on reigniting his tennis career as well as his friendship with Matt — until danger comes knocking, literally.”
Based on the logline and the official trailer, it seems like all hell will break loose when Ava’s sister, Tory, announces that she has gotten engaged to Matt, not knowing he is a serial killer. Ava will have to decide if she should warn Tory about her fiancé.
At the same time, new murders will start happening in Los Angeles, and Ava will start to wonder if Matt is involved again. Even though she would want to leave her true-crime obsession behind, she’ll get pulled back into the chaos.
Nathan will get caught in the middle. He’ll want to support Ava but also enjoy the peace they have had in the previous few months. As he will spend more time with Matt on the tennis court, Nathan would not realize he might be getting too close to danger.
As for Ava’s new friend Drew, she would bring some humor into her life but might also know something important about the new murders. Things could get scarier when Ava and Nathan realize the new killings could be connected to Ruby Gale’s body, which they buried under a tennis court.
Meanwhile, Ava’s TikTok investigations could uncover some shocking clues about the murders, and her suspicions about Matt will grow stronger. Season 2 would be packed with dark humor, suspense, and big surprises, just like the previous one, making the show an engaging watch.
All episodes of Based On A True Story season 2 will be released on Peacock on November 21, 2024.
