Netflix’s Taiwanese mystery-romance Had I Not Seen the Sun came out in two parts.
Part 1 was released on November 13, 2025. Part 2 will come out on December 11, 2025.
The series, which brings together true-crime, psychological thriller, and supernatural romance, has been a hot topic since its launch, not only due to Tseng Jing-hua's creepy lead performance but also the show's decision to split the storyline across two parts.
Part 1 ends with a big cliffhanger. It leaves viewers confused on purpose. We learn some things about Li Jen-yao, his crimes, and his violent teen years, but not everything.
Many important questions are still not answered: Who is Chiang Hsiao-tung really? What happened to her? Why did Jen-yao do what he did? What will happen after the prison interview?
During the interview, the filmmaker Chou Pin-yu sees strange things, visions, ghosts, and clues. Had I Not Seen the Sun Part 2 will explain these mysteries and show the truth behind them.
What can we expect from Had I Not Seen the Sun Part 2?

Had I Not Seen the Sun Part 2 comes out on December 11. Because of the big cliffhanger and the clues we saw in Part 1, these are the main things Part 2 will probably show.
A definitive answer about Chiang Hsiao-tung:
The biggest question is whether Hsiao-tung is still alive and if she will see Jen-yao (or Pin-yu) again. In Part 1, Jen-yao thinks he sees her, and that moment is too important to ignore. In Part 2, one of three things may happen:
- Hsiao-tung comes back, and they finally face the truth.
- We learn she was forced to stay quiet, and the real story comes out.
- She is gone, and her loss is what pushed Jen-yao into darkness.
Each path gives a different emotion: hope, justice, or sadness. Many recaps say this is the key mystery of Had I Not Seen the Sun Part 2.
Jen-yao’s motive and the limits of sympathy:
Part 1 shows Jen-yao’s painful past, but doesn’t fully explain why he made the choices he did. In Part 2, the show will probably do one of two things:
- Help us understand Jen-yao more by showing how he tried to justify his actions, or
- Make it clear that what he did was wrong and can’t be excused.
The series has been balancing between feeling sorry for him and being scared of him. Had I Not Seen the Sun Part 2 will have to decide which direction to take, so the story feels clear and responsible. Critics say this is an important problem the show must solve.
Pin-yu’s unraveling or awakening:
Pin-yu’s visions are a big part of the story. In Had I Not Seen the Sun Part 2, we may learn if her visions are real clues, like hidden memories or hints about new suspects. Or we may learn that the visions are not real, and they come from Pin-yu becoming too close to the case.
No matter what, her choices are important. She must decide if she will publish the documentary, protect someone, or help create a false story. These choices will decide the show’s moral message. Reviews say the show will keep focusing on the line between obsession and empathy.
A larger institutional or social critique:
The backstory shows that many people failed the characters. It was not just one person’s fault. Families, schools, and the community all made mistakes.
Had I Not Seen the Sun Part 2 might look at these bigger problems. It may show cover-ups, online bullying, and adults who did nothing. Some recaps already point this out. They say the show cares about how staying silent can cause harm.
In Part 2, we may see scenes where more than one person is blamed. There could also be a court case or some kind of public punishment.
A tonal choice: redemption, punishment, or ambiguity:
Had I Not Seen the Sun Part 2 also has to choose its tone. Will it end with clear justice, like arrests or confessions? Will it end with emotional healing, like forgiveness? Or will it stay unclear, with open questions?
Because Part 1 ended mysteriously, the story may stay a little unclear. But Netflix trailers say we will get some big reveals.
So viewers should expect both. We may get some answers, like what happens to Hsiao-tung and why certain people acted the way they did. But some moral questions will stay open, so people can keep talking about the story after it ends.
If you watched Part 1 and wanted more answers, Part 2 on December 11 is made for that. It will give you answers, but it will also raise new questions. The ending of the whole series depends on how it treats Hsiao-tung’s story and Pin-yu’s choices. It could finish as a mystery, a sad love story, or a deep look at the mind.
Reviews, the Netflix press release, and recaps all suggest the same thing. Had I Not Seen the Sun Part 2 will solve the main mysteries. But it will also keep the show’s big theme: how memory and truth can clash.
