Untamed: Release date news, cast details and more about the upcoming Netflix thriller show starring Eric Bana

Eric Bana is coming to Netflix this July with his latest mystery thriller series, Untamed, with Mark L. Smith at the helm of the project. Bana will be joined by co-star and a well-recognized face in Hollywood, Sam Neill (known for his work in the Jurassic Park saga).

Untamed is a story set in the wilderness of Yosemite National Park and the dark secrets that it hides. According to Tudum, Eric Bana will play one of the central roles in this Netflix thriller that comes as a co-venture between John Wells Productions, Bee Holder Productions, and Escape Artists Productions in association with WB Studios. The official synopsis of Untamed, per IMDb, reads:

"Follows a National Parks Service agent as he investigates a brutal death."

On July 17, 2025, Untamed will have an exclusive premiere on Netflix, and being a limited series, all episodes will drop together. The thriller series was reportedly shot in different parts of Vancouver, with Chip Kerr Park being one of the major filming spots.

What do we know about the plot of Untamed?

The first official teaser of Untamed was released a day ago, and ever since, the comment section has been flooded with love and support from fans all around the world, especially for the casting of Eric Bana.

The plot centers on a man named Kyle Turner(played by Bana), an investigating officer working on behalf of the National Parks Service branch in maintaining and enforcing forest laws.

Special Agent Turner has his own troubles from the past to deal with, and his life takes a 180-degree turn when a brutal murder takes place in Yosemite. Naturally, being a senior agent, Kyle is assigned to solve the mysterious homicide, and he is joined by an amateur agent and park ranger named Naya Vasquez (Lily Santiago plays the role).

Turner is also joined by the chief park ranger and the overseeing officer, Paul Souter (played by Sam Neill), who is also a close mate of the former. The latest teaser of Untamed leaves a lot of questions for the viewers as to what exactly the mystery of the National Park is. One of the closing lines by Eric Bana's character sums it all up:

"Things happen different out here."

Who is in the cast of Untamed?

Eric Bana's character is a somewhat gray one — a man with a tumultuous past who now serves in the National Park's Investigative Branch as a special agent. Lily Santiago (known from the La Brea franchise) is also a part of the cast, and she has played the role of a junior agent, Naya Vasquez, whose somewhat rookie ways do not stop her from being ambitious — a person who is always eager to learn.

As per Tudum, Untamed co-creator Elle Smith reportedly described the character, saying:

"Because Vasquez is new to the park, we get to see the park through her eyes. We get to understand what this job is, and see the beauty of the park, but also the dangers."

Rosemarie DeWitt, who worked in multiple hit projects, namely Smile 2, The Estate, Poltergeist, and La La Land, will appear on screen as a woman named Jill Bodwin, who is also the ex-wife of Kyle Turner. Their separation, however, could not weaken their emotional bonding.

Jill is an ex-teacher, but presently she works as a counselor recruited by the National Park authorities. The Young and the Restless star Wilson Bethel will play the role of Shane Maguire, a lone-wolf (and ex-army ranger) whose habitat is the forest itself — he is also the wildlife management officer of Yosemite National Park.
