Netflix has released the fifth volume of Unsolved Mysteries just in time for Halloween. This latest four-episode series will surely send shivers down every viewer's spine. As the name suggests, the docu-series is all about mysteries left unsolved, leaving viewers with a few unanswered questions at the end.
The final episode of this season of Netflix's Unsolved Mysteries sends us back in time to a case in Cleveland, Ohio. In 2019, two people were shot and killed near a park bench in Cleveland Metroparks Rocky River. The two people, who were friends, were Carnell Sledge, 40, and Kate Brown, 33.
The Park Bench Murders episode follows the search for answers by family members and investigators five years later. It explores different theories that could have led to the murders of Kate and Carnell.
Unsolved Mysteries: Who were Carnell Sledge and Kate Brown?
Unsolved Mysteries recently covered a case of Kate Brown and Carnell Sledge, who had been close friends for years. They had an on-off relationship. But, they would always get back together as if nothing had ever happened. Kate and Carnell come from good families and have no history of violence. So, their murder in 2019 was a shocker for everyone.
Kate's phone records showed that she and Carnell had planned to meet, but the motive behind it remains unclear. But, what it resulted in is out there for everyone to see, as the pair were ruthlessly shot dead.
At around 5.22 pm that same afternoon, a couple were preparing to paddle their kayaks on the Rocky River Reservation near Cleveland. They found Kate and Carnell's bodies on the bank and called the police.
Gunshot wounds were found in the back of their heads. Despite being a popular spot for joggers and traffic, no one reported seeing a crime. It is likely that someone approached the couple from behind, killed them, and then disappeared into the dark.
Theories involved in Unsolved Mysteries: The Park Bench Murders Episode
Unsolved Mysteries is prone to having theories behind every mystery. Similarly, people and investigators have speculated reasons that might have led the couple to be there when darkness and a murderer awaited them.
Kate and Carnell were good friends, but none of their family knew about the meeting. It is hard to tell the exact reason behind it according to Carnell’s family, Carnell had an important family dinner at 5 pm, so if he felt the need to be there, it might have been something really urgent. It is also highlighted in the show that both Kate and Carnell tended to usually run to each other when they were in trouble, so it could have been one of the reasons.
Another theory in Unsolved Mysteries comes from Kate's sister, who claims that Carnell wanted to talk to Kate about how he really felt. Well, how Kate feels will remain unknown forever, but if Carnell wanted to express his feelings to her, it could have also been a strong reason for the pair to be there as it might have been a conversation that could not wait.
Suspects for the murder of Kate and Carnell according to Unsolved Mysteries
Families and friends of Kate and Carnell have suspected numerous people after their murder, which also includes Carnell's ex-girlfriend Alyssa. She remained very co-operative with investigators, according to the Cleveland Metroparks Police Department. Though she owned a gun, it was not the murder weapon in use, moreover it has been proved that she was at work when both murders took place.
Kate's family members also doubted the men she dated, including a man she had recently met on a dating app. She decided to not take things further after she learned he had allegedly been involved in a fatal stabbing.
Kate’s mother recalls an allegedly abusive ex-boyfriend who was with her the night before she was murdered. Though according to Unsolved Mysteries, both men were somewhere else when the murder occurred.
Kate's mother, Kim, still claims in Unsolved Mysteries that the jealous ex-boyfriend theory makes sense to her.
The case remains unsolved as of now.
Unsolved Mysteries is currently available to stream on Netflix.
