Top Chef Season 22 Episode 4 saw Zubair, Henry, and Shuai eliminated after they underperformed during the second challenge. The contestants were asked to make Canadian desserts with a savory twist.

Giving each chef feedback, the judges claimed that the trio had their "least favorite dishes of the day." Gail said about Shuai's dish,

"Just curious about how you made the meatball. It felt a little dry and a little bit spongy."

As for Zubair, the duck was the biggest issue, as it was overcooked. Tom said,

"It was the biggest flaw. It almost seemed like not only was it seared too hard, and you didn't render the fat out, but it was also well in advance, so it seemed like it sat around. The other thing is, the wheat berries were pretty undercooked too."

Tom argued to keep Zubair in the show, but Kristen was not on board with the decision. She felt like she would eat Henry's undercooked duck over Zubair's overcooked one any day. Ultimately, the judges decided to eliminate Zubair. In a confessional, he said,

"I was not expecting to be here. I was building momentum. I had a win under my belt, but I'm also human. And we will make mistakes. And at this level, all the small mistakes matter."

However, who went home from Top Chef? Zubair, but, well, technically no one, as he still has a chance to come back. Tom, who was siding with Zubair against all three other judges and especially Kristen, decided to give him another shot.

Zubair is invited to Top Chef: The Last Chance, where he will compete against Chef Bailey. Upon winning, he may join season 4 once again. Tom thanked the other three judges but said that the kitchen is his now.

Top Chef Season 22 Episode 4 - What made Zubair get eliminated from Top Chef?

Zubair took part in the elimination challenge of the episode. During this round, the chefs had a limited budget of just $100, which they had to use to buy their ingredients.

The creative twist was how they were given a Canadian dessert, which they had to turn savory. Zubair was assigned to work on butter tart, and talking about the dish he is making, he said,

"I'm making a pecan and cashew korma with my seared duck breast. Then, I'm going to make like a sweet and savory South Indian condiment with the pecans and raisins. So, I'm trying to have the same texture as that butter tart. It's going to be awesome."

Now, the judges later had the biggest complaint that his duck was way overcooked and sat for a while before being plated and served. While he was preparing the same, viewers saw how he was working with three induction burners, which might have caused the mishap for him.

They each contained a different ingredient, that is, his sweet and savory condiment, his korma, and then one with wheat berries.

When it came to working with the ducks, Zubair said that he is going to "sear it low and slow" and that "the main thing with duck is you've got to leave it the f*ck alone."

But when he checked later with just 43 minutes left, his duck was unevenly cooked, and given the fact that there were no more pieces left for him, he just had to go with what was available. This made the judges question him and, ultimately, move towards elimination.
