Ben Wyatt on Parks and Recreation is one of the more levelheaded characters on screen, who ends up keeping most of the others in check. That said, Ben has his own unique quirks that makes him a goofy and lovable character. From never hesitating to showcase his nerdy side to proudly talk about his distinctive tastes, Ben Wyatt has received much love from the fans of the show and critics alike.

Portrayed by Adam Scott, the audience was first introduced to Ben in Season 2 of Parks and Recreation on NBC when he arrives in the fictional town of Pawnee with Chris Traeger (played by Rob Lowe). They are appointed to oversee Pawnee’s fund management. During the time, he develops a close bond with the Parks and Recreation department and even ends up marrying the department deputy director, Leslie Knope (played by Amy Poehler). 5) Ben is afraid of police

Dave Returns – Season 4, episode 15

While most of the time Ben carries himself with confidence, whenever he is in close proximity to police officials he gets awkward. For Leslie’s campaign for city council she wants to get an endorsement from the police chief. Ben would appear uncomfortable and fumbling for words around the police.

Adding to this, he meets Leslie’s ex-boyfriend, Dave (played by Louis C.K.), for dinner. Dave tells Leslie that he still loves her. Ben is afraid to speak up to Dave as he is a police officer, but he does anyway so as to protect his relationship with Leslie. Later, Ben manages to overcome his fear and get Leslie the endorsement from the police chief.


4) Ben is popular

The Cones of Dunshire – Season 6, Episode 9

Ben if often on the receiving end of the joke because of his love for accounting. However, in this episode Ben gets to embrace it with much love. He creates a board game called 'The Cones of Dunshire', but Leslie does not find it interesting. Instead, she encourages him to get a day job.

Ben is rehired by Barney Varmn’s accounting firm, which he had previously rejected. At the firm, Ben gets to share his nerdy jokes and solve accounting cases. He is an instant hit and becomes popular at the office. But his stay is brief as Chris Traeger asks him to take over as City Manager. As a parting gift, he gives the accounting firm employees his ‘The Cones of Dunshire’ board game, which they love.


3) Ben Wyatt loves Calzone

The Comeback Kid – Season 4, episode 11

When it comes to food, Ben’s love for calzone is well-documented throughout the show. He would often bring it up despite being ridiculed for his choice. But that does not deter his spirits. In the episode, Ben is jobless and experimenting with what to do next. As he tries different hobbies to fill the void, he comes upon the idea to make calzones and even contemplates the idea of opening a restaurant called ‘The Low -Cal Calzone Zone’. Chris Traeger is not impressed with his obsession for the cheesy treat.

Later in the episode, he would also go on to make a claymation movie project titled Requiem for a Tuesday. He shared that he worked on it for three weeks, but the video only lasts for about five seconds. The episode ends with Leslie asking Ben to be her new campaign manager.


2) Ben’s obsession with Game Of Thrones

Anniversaries – Season 6, Episode 14

If Ben can talk about his love for Game Of Thrones, he would passionately do so and some more. Though Leslie Knope has very little knowledge about the hit series, for their anniversary she gifts her husband the replica of the Iron Throne from the famous series. Ben would exclaim, ‘This is the greatest gift I have ever received’.

His reaction remains as one of the purest and more endearing moments on the show. He sits on the throne and delivers some random lines from Game Of Thrones. A clueless Leslie tries to join in his imaginary playtime, but she ends up referring to Star Trek instead, prompting Ben to send her out.


1) Ben doesn’t get Lil Sebastian

Ben Wyatt is a team player, even if he sometimes doesn’t understand his eccentric co-workers. During the episode, we are introduced to the Pawnee’s celebrity miniature horse, Lil Sebastian. The whole Parks and Recreation department gets overjoyed about the news.

When Ben sees the miniature horse, he gets confused as to why everyone is so excited about the animal. He wonders if he is missing something. Even during his later appearances, Ben would appear puzzled at his inability to understand the craze around the animal. Failing to make sense of the town’s obsession for Lil Sebastian, he later lies that he loves the animal just to keep everyone happy.


Parks and Recreation is created by Greg Daniels and Micheal Schur. The show debuted on NBC in 2009 and became one of the more celebrated sitcoms. The comedy show follows the daily lives of the ever-optimistic Leslie Knope and her co-workers at the Parks and Recreation department in a town called Pawnee, Indiana.
