Walter White commits countless illegal crimes in Breaking Bad. But the way he completely disintegrates the trajectory of Jesse Pinkman’s life is the biggest crime of them all. Joining Walt’s meth empire led to Jesse committing countless crimes and being a part of unending violence. Most of all, it turned him into a shell of the person he once was.

The final scene of the Breaking Bad franchise, featuring Jesse Pinkman, gives a deeper look at just how tragic his story became after meeting Walt.

Keep reading to understand the timeline of Jesse's final appearance in the franchise.

Jesse Pinkman's final appearance in the Breaking Bad franchise: a timeline

All the crimes and violence throughout the seasons of Breaking Bad broke Jesse's spirit as the show progressed. Every passing second around the horror of Walt's empire made him want to escape. It seemed almost impossible that, after everything he had done, Jesse would get a somewhat happy ending.

The final scene for Jesse, where he escapes and drives away after Walter's shootout at the Neo-Nazi compound, away from the horror, was one final bit of reprieve for his character.

This ending, although ambiguous, remained the character's final scene in the franchise, and even the creator asserted that Jesse had managed to run away and start a new life.

Fans had to make do with the ambiguous yet hopeful ending of Breaking Bad until the El Camino movie.

The movie follows Jesse after he is on the run, in parallel with flashbacks to his time in captivity. Even though the journey is hard, and he is on the run from the law, Jesse manages to get away and later buy a new identity.

The final scene for his character in the franchise features Jesse in Alaska, earning some money by woodworking and distributing legal marijuana. Even though this appears to be the final scene for Jesse's character in the Breaking Bad universe and the furthest we see him in the timeline, it is not truly the end. It is not actually the last time we see Aaron Paul as Jesse.

Better Call Saul had been teasing cameos from Aaron Paul's Jesse throughout its run, but it wasn't until Season 6 that Jesse made an appearance on the show. This appearance ended up being his character's final appearance in the timeline.

To make things even more interesting, Jesse's final scene in Better Call Saul was chronologically the first-ever look at his character in the franchise. This scene takes place even before the first episode of Breaking Bad, meaning the Jesse we see in Better Call Saul has never had the misfortune of meeting Walter.

The four-minute scene features Jesse running into Kim Wexler outside of Saul Goodman's law office. Kim is exiting Goodman's office after signing her divorce papers, whereas Jesse is waiting for Emilio. It turns out Kim had represented Combo, and so Jesse recognized her. The interaction between the two is a touching tribute to Jesse's journey in this universe.

The Jesse who interacts with Kim is so much brighter, free, funny, and just full of life compared to the one we had seen so far.

This final appearance of Jesse in the franchise, showcasing how he was before meeting Walter and how life might have differed if he hadn't met him, was the best way to say goodbye to his character.
