If you love marine biology or harbor a niche interest in sharks, the new reality game show on Netflix, All The Sharks, is for you! Hosted by the legendary Tom Hird, this show has four teams competing with each other to find sharks in 6 locations around the world. Once you find a shark, you have to click its picture. The more sharks you find AND the rarer sharks you find, your chances of winning increase!

The teams get 8 hours, 4 gas cylinders, and a set of GoPro cameras to complete these challenges, which take place in exquisite locations like the Maldives, Galapagos, Bahamas, South Africa, Japan, and Australia. The winner gets to contribute a hefty amount to a marine conservation organization of their liking.

The team - Shark Docs, consists of marine biologists Chris and Brendan, whose spectacular journey is one to remember.

Here is a list of 9 Shark Doc moments from All the Sharks that will make you wish you were out there with them.

These 7 Shark Doc moments from All the Sharks will make you wish you were out there with them

1) First Dive in the Maldives

The first competition of the show takes place at the tropical paradise itself —the Maldives, known for its turquoise blue waters but also for being home to a vast species of sharks. The Shark Docs, being competent marine biologists, leveraged their knowledge of rare sea creatures and were able to snap pictures of numerous types of sharks.

They maximized their points by spotting rare sharks, garnering high points, but not completely giving up on the readily available low-point sharks either. Their coordination and synergy would make anyone want to be a part of their team. Out of the many sharks they encountered, some included - Silvertip Shark, Grey Reef Shark, Whitecap Shark, and Nurse Shark.

Seeing the stunning silver tips amidst the backdrop of the Maldives’ turquoise waters was an enchanting experience, and the Shark Docs truly capitalized on it.

2) Shark Docs’ Brave Maldives Recovery

While the Shark Docs had a great start, diving into the dream haven that the waters of the Maldives provide, they faced a big problem. Brendon starts feeling uneasy and is on the verge of blacking out underwater. After the inspection by the medics, he is advised not to stop diving for the day, or it could result in permanent damage to his sinus. Therefore, he is forced to take a step back, leaving Chris to take the task of spotting sharks and snapping photographs all alone.

As a viewer, you might feel the urge to jump straight in and help him out, especially if the surroundings are as vibrant and full of rare species as we get to see on screen, but Chris proves he doesn’t need any help. With remarkable solo effort, he keeps the mission alive and earns them first position, exhibiting how strong their collaboration is.

3) Night Dive Success in Australia

After winning the first challenge, we next get to see the excellence of Shark Docs in the diverse coral reef of Australia. Here, their winning bet was on photographing the elusive bamboo sharks and rare wobbegongs. Night dives require technical expertise, and we get to see just that from our two marine biologists.

Getting to dive in the Great Barrier Reef during nighttime makes up for once in a lifetime opportunity, and exploring the vibrant flora and fauna present was truly a memorable experience for them. You could see the excitement rippling straight out of them when they found the rare wobbegong shark, which is a master of camouflage and indeed a sight to behold. If you are a marine life enthusiast, this episode would have been a treat for you.

4) Overcoming Brutal Currents in Japan

Till now, in All the Sharks, we saw Shark Docs emerging victorious in every challenge, but Japan really tested their skills. While the water on the coast of Japan is brimming with different rarities of sharks, they also harbor the deathly sharknados - hundreds of sharks swirling around you like a tornado. The threatening jellyfish and brutal currents weren’t helping either.

They got to snap pictures of the Bounded Hound Shark, Japanese Webbegong and Short-tail Nurse Sharks. In this episode, we got to see the great communication skills between these two friends while battling the adverse weather conditions of Japan, making up for a critical episode, showcasing their moments of endurance and resilience.

5) Strategic Play in South Africa

In Africa, we get to witness a tyranny — the first elimination. While the Docs are at the top of the leadership table, nothing is set in stone; anything can turn the tables around, and they must give their all to remain safe not only from elimination but also from the deadly Great White Sharks.

We get to see some great strategic planning moments, where they use a balanced approach by targeting both rare species as well as common ones, emerging victorious once again. In these low-visibility waters, we get to witness Bull Shark, Tiger Shark, Pajama Shark, and even the beautiful Leopard Sharks.

6) Hammerhead Encounter in Bimini

The next challenge took place in Bimini, off the coast of the Bahamas. We again got to witness the precision of shark docs when photographing the fast-moving hammerhead sharks. Their background knowledge working in institutes focused on the conservation of these endangered species really helped, and they managed to capture some really surreal shots.

After the elimination in Africa, the scores were wiped and brought back to zero, so it was critical for the Shark Docs to prove their worth once again, which they did. While they did not win this competition, they sure managed to evade elimination and make it to the finals.

7) Galápagos Finale Push

For the finale of All the Sharks, the Shark Docs need to compete with the Great Brits in the Galápagos Islands of South America. Their mission is threatened because of the Orcas — Killer whales that hunt sharks, hence making the spotting even difficult. Their target is to spot the rarest of the rarest - the Whale Shark, which would earn them 100 points, thus tipping the scale in their favour, but the task is not easy. With the 48 hours provided to them, Shark Docs managed to spot some very rare species like Scalloped Hammerheads, Galapagos Sharks, and Whitetip Reef Sharks.

Did they spot the Whale Shark and win the competition? Well, you need to watch the show for that, which I can assure you is quite invigorating and infographic, and gives such a breathtaking and vivid portrayal of the marine world that you’d be left with the urge to grab a diving set and head straight into the ocean.
