Season 4 brought The Boys to the darkest, messiest, and most chaotic place so far, full of gore, incisive satire, and relentless twists after twists. What initially started as an act to do away with the supes and Vought, soon ensued into a bloody political debacle, propaganda, power politics, and eventually superheroes running the country like an absolutely out-of-control corporate boardroom.
From Billy Butcher wrestling with his own demons to Homelander insisting on absolute power, this season was not only about punching supes; it also demonstrated how dangerous the world is when people who are highly unstable are in control.
At the end, alliances were disrupted, bodies were scattered everywhere, and the U.S. was on the verge of a full-blown supe dictatorship. Having only one season left, it all comes down to a final battle in The Boys Season 5, not merely between good and evil, but between power, morality, and survival.
Homelander, politics, and supes running the world
The Boys Season 4 transforms Homelander from a lethal icon into a mighty political force. He plans to take over America through chaos, media manipulation, and the assistance of the genius Sister Sage. By raising hell, influencing masses, and manipulating political agents such as Victoria Neuman, Homelander nearly conquers the U.S. government, and even when it does not turn out quite like he wants, he can still accumulate giant power.
Rather than becoming President, Homelander is left at the end of the season as the true force behind the military and all supes to be placed under martial law. Democracy is undermined, and his barbaric concept of law and order reigns. Meanwhile, his mental condition continues to deteriorate, particularly due to his unhealthy fixation on his son Ryan, which contributes to some of the most disturbing scenes in the show. It makes the outcome both exciting and terrifying, setting the stage for an even more spectacular reckoning in The Boys Season 5.
Butcher’s dark turn and The Boys falling apart
Billy Butcher, once the angry core of the team, may have finally gone too far this time. Facing his death and dealing with super-dangerous Compound V side effects, he's not just a rough anti-hero anymore but a walking time bomb with superpowers. In the Season 4 finale, he brutally kills Victoria Neuman to get hold of a virus that could finally kill Homelander, but would also kill anyone with Compound V in their system.
Meanwhile, the rest of The Boys: Hughie, Starlight, Frenchie, Kimiko, and M.M., get left scattered, captured, or on the run as their plan falls apart. Trust breaks down, alliances weaken, and the team ends Season 4 divided and hunted. Whether Butcher is still a hero, turning into a villain, or stuck somewhere in between is the big question heading into the final season.
