Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne have left fans in splits with season 2 of their Apple TV+ show, Platonic.

With the way things ended in Season 2, the ground is set for the storyline to get even more chaotic in Season 3.

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne play the lead characters of the show, named Will and Sylvia, respectively.

When filming began for the first season of Platonic, there were no talks of Season 2. However, as the shoot progressed, the directors, Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, asked Rogen and Byrne if they would be interested in a second season, and thankfully, the duo agreed.

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne opened up about how Platonic was relatable for them

Platonic follows the story of Rogen's Will and Byrne's Sylvia as they navigate friendship in their late 40s. While the duo had been estranged after a huge falling out in the past, they rekindled their friendship in their late 40s and got closer than ever before.

After separating from his ex-wife, Will ends up living with Sylvia and her husband for a while. However, the duo end up having a falling out again when Sylvia discovers that Will is the person who convinced her husband to quit his job and pursue his passion for becoming a writer, leaving their family in a position of financial insecurity.

In Season 2, however, the audience sees the two friends come together in a business partnership when Will tries to set up his bar, but stands in the face of legal trouble with his former fiancée, Jenna. Sylvia ends up helping him skirt that legal trouble by offering to be the face of his "Shitty Little Bar," and that leaves the audience with a lot to chew on as they wait for Season 3.

Reflecting on her feelings towards the show, Byrne told The Hollywood Reporter,

"The show’s really relatable in many ways, but it has a very light touch, which I think people really appreciate. My friends just so enjoyed when it came out and were like, “This is exactly what I need to watch right now.” Nothing made me happier than to hear that."

She even spoke about the dynamics shared between Will and her character, Sylvia.

"Her ability to have more of a typical friendship with Will is still just out of her reach. She’s too opinionated, too controlling, too possessive - all these sorts of funny, crazy characteristics she has."

Rogen added,

"Part of the fun of a show like this is you know the characters well, and I don’t know if sweeping arcs are necessarily a key to comedy like this, rather than being stuck in your patterns. These characters have a sort of imposter syndrome, a desperation to feel like they appear to have their life together, even though they don’t necessarily. That kind of stuff manifests in countless ways, but is at its core is very simple and relatable."

Platonic Season 2 is available to stream on Apple TV+.
