The Pitt, which was released on HBO Max on 9th January 2025, won five Primetime Emmy Awards this year, including Outstanding Drama Series. The show has done remarkably well for its first season, and it seems fans are flocking to watch it more after the Emmy wins.
It is natural for shows to have a high viewership after they win an award, and given that the show has won five awards for its debut season, its viewership has risen significantly. As Deadline reports, following The Pitt's Emmy wins, the show has broken HBO Max's record of viewership post-season release.
The Pitt breaks viewership records
The Pitt follows attending physician, Dr. Michael Robinavitch, and the staff of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center's ER, going through a stressful and testing fifteen-hour shift. The show has fifteen episodes, each covering an hour of the shift, and has been renewed for a second season. Production for Season 2 began in June 202,5 and creators are aiming for a January 2026 release.
At the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, The Pitt won the awards for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Casting. Noah Wyle won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor, Katherine LaNasa won for Outstanding Supporting Actress, and Shawn Hatosy won for Outstanding Guest Actor. Following the Emmy wins, as Deadline reports, the show has been watched for over 60 million minutes on 15th September 2025.
This is a significant rise from the 24.9 million minutes watched on the Monday before the Emmys took place. Besides, after the show's finale aired on 10th April, each episode garnered over 18M viewers worldwide. Thus, the show has crossed the record for postseason release views for a debut season of any HBO or HBO Max show.
The Pitt received considerable praise for its portrayal of a 'pitt' or emergency room of a hospital. Besides the awards, the accurate representation of the lives of medical professionals is commendable, given that many shows fail to do that. At the time of writing this article, the show has a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score, which is great news for the show, given that it has been months since season one ended.

Season 2 of The Pitt will see a short time jump of ten months and will be set on a Fourth of July weekend. Thus, we can tell that the next shift at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center's ER is going to be a difficult one, as holidays bring the largest number of patients, as we have seen in countless medical shows before.
The show stars Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael Robinavitch, Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon, Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans, Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Samira Mohan, Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay, Taylor Dearden as Dr. Melissa King, and Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos, among others.
Sepideh Moafi is joining the cast for Season 2 as Dr. Al-Hashimi in a leading role. The new recurring cast for Season 2 includes Charles Baker as Troy, Irene Choi as Joy, Laëtitia Hollard as Emma, Lucas Iverson as James, Lawrence Robinson as Brian Hancock, and Zack Morris as Jackson Davis. Victor Rivas Rivers is joining Season 2 as Trent Norris.
The Pitt is created by R. Scott Gemmill, who is also the showrunner and an executive producer on the show. Other executive producers include John Wells, Noah Wyle, Michael Hissrich, Erin Jontow, and Simran Baidwan. The production companies behind the show are John Wells Productions, R. Scott Gemmill Productions, and Warner Bros. Television.
The Pitt is streaming on HBO Max.
