The Mighty Nein Episode 2 recap – Who Will You Be?

The Mighty Nein Episode 2 adds more to the lore. We meet new characters and learn more about the story and magic. Several small stories start happening at the same time. All of them are slowly leading to the Fletchling and Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities.
The episode begins at sea. Fjord trains with his captain, Vandran. He loses the fight, but Vandran says he could be a good leader if he faces his fears. Suddenly, a strange storm hits. Vandran knows it is caused by something hunting him.
Fjord sees Sabian sneaking below deck. He finds Sabian setting the ship on fire. Before Fjord can stop him, Sabian stabs him and escapes. The ship explodes, and Fjord falls into the sea.
In the dark water, Fjord hears a voice telling him to “breathe.” A huge sea creature with one glowing eye, called Uk’otoa, appears. It heals Fjord’s wound and keeps him alive.
Fjord wakes up on a beach, fully healed, in The Mighty Nein Episode 2. All that is left are a sword and an arm brace washed ashore. Vandran’s hat is nearby, like a grave marker. Fjord promises to become the man Vandran believed he could be. He leaves the beach, and the sword glows green as he sets off.
At the same time, in The Mighty Nein Episode 2, Beau keeps training with Dairon, the spy who saved her last episode. Dairon sends her undercover to the carnival. She needs to follow a lead on the Volstruckers. Beau leaves, not knowing that other people are also going to the carnival for different reasons.
Jester’s prank gone wrong
Elsewhere in The Mighty Nein Episode 2, we meet Jester Lavorre, a playful tiefling girl. She has a great imagination and an invisible friend called the Traveler. Her mother, Marion, says they must cancel a show for a powerful noble, Lord Sharpe. Jester quietly decides to play a trick on him.
During Sharpe’s speech, Jester uses illusion magic to make embarrassing images of him appear in the square. The prank works, but she didn’t think about what would happen next. Sharpe gets angry and sends soldiers after her.
While running, Jester bumps into Fjord. They instantly like each other. People think they are working together. Fjord’s mysterious sword reacts to danger. It teleports to his hand and explodes with magic he didn’t know he had.
Together, they escape and hide at Jester’s home. Fjord pretends to be an experienced sea captain. Marion cries and asks him to protect her daughter before Sharpe can get them.
Meanwhile, in The Mighty Nein Episode 2, Caleb and Nott are poor, tired, and running from trouble. They sneak into a stable to sleep. During the night, Nott’s compulsive thieving kicks in.
She wakes the owner, and they have to run away quickly. Their escape accidentally frees all the horses, including Beau’s horse. Caleb and Nott head toward the carnival, too. On the way, they talk about wanted posters, their fears, and the magic ingredients Caleb wants to steal for new spells.
The Kryn Dynasty’s desperation
Far away, the Bright Queen of the Kryn Dynasty meets with Essek in The Mighty Nein Episode 2.
Since the Luxon Beacon was stolen, the reincarnation cycle of her people is broken. Now, when someone dies, it is permanent. The Queen warns that if the Beacon is not found soon, she will go to war.
Essek agrees to help, but he hides a secret. His mother is sick with Typhros, a disease caused by too many past lives. If the Queen finds out, she could execute Essek’s mother. Essek is torn. He wants the Beacon not to worship it, but to study it and try to save his mother.
Paths converge
While Fjord and Jester camp, Fjord has a dream. He remembers when Uk’otoa healed him. The big eye opens underwater and whispers: “Become.”
Beau walks toward the carnival because she lost her horse. Caleb and Nott are also on the same road. Fjord and Jester are heading that way, too.
All of their paths are slowly coming together.
