Participants were then instructed to dig their own graves to save themselves. To do that, they had to find a shield from their respective graves. With that, they would be able to save themselves from getting murdered in the first episode.
Six participants, including Jonathan Ross, Joe Marler, Charlotte Church, Joe Wilkinson, Kate Garraway, and Celia Imrie, were able to find their shields. Hence, they were safe from being murdered.
The show host also chose the Traitors. They were Cat Burns, Alan Carr, and Jonathan Ross. However, they were not supposed to go through with a murder on the debut night of the show.
